Just got off the phone with a guy close to Tulane’s program. Fritz met with GT in Atlanta today they discussed terms and he’s back in New Orleans now. He addressed the team when he got back, didn’t say he was staying and didn’t say he was leaving. Told the players that he wants to kick UCF’s arse on Saturday.

My guy said “Trust the plan.” Whatever that means. Fritz could take the job but he likely isn’t the front runner. If he leaves it will be after he collects his bonus from winning the American Conference Championship.

I’m sure Georgia tech fans are entirely too busy winning at life to care that much, but Fritz would be such a stale hire at best. I think I’d rather push the red button and gamble on Deion recruiting Atlanta before that

If he's leaving, then he needs to announce it. None of this wait until next week to tell the team, if the deal is already struck.

That’s the thing. They didn’t reach a deal. He applied for the job but they are still interviewing other coaches

If I'm Fritz, the thought of starting over again at yet another program at his age would seem exhausting.

I couldn’t blame him for taking a job with more administrative/ fan support that pays more, like Auburn or something, but Georgia Tech??? That’s a legit harder place to win than Tulane

Georgia Tech is still an upgrade over Tulane.

I know Willie and follow the program closely - and that sounds legit. Hope you are right. Curious who you spoke with?

That's putting it mildly. I'm a casual fan; the serious fans I know are spitting nails at the thought of Fritz. Key is the runaway favorite, but I don't know if he's the runaway favorite of the 8 figure donors.

I used to get my scoop from Kelly Comarda (former pitcher who now works for “Fear The Wave”) but I don’t do Twitter anymore.

I won’t name drop my source but dude literally lives off sports gambling and has no life outside of Tulane athletics. Kind of sad honestly.. but he’s never given me bad info

46 year old life long Georgia Tech Fan.

If this happens.. I will never support Georgia Tech Football ever again... along with many other Tech Fans/Alumni/Lettermen

Brent Key EASILY proved himself in the dumpster fire that was handed to him in mid season. Not to sound gay but BK won our hearts over after the trainwreck we all endured the past 4 years with Geoff Collins

frick THIS shite. I am beyond pissed off at this shitty news

You should voice your displeasure directly to GT’s athletic department and tell them you won’t give the university another dime if they hire Willie Fritz

Such a low risk pick for the AD. I think Key at absolute worst wins 7-8 games per year, and if you give a popular GT guy a chance and he wins 7-8 games nobody's going to be pissed. They might want to move on after awhile but they're not calling for the AD's head.

Yeah, I don’t know. There’s a lot of smoke around this one.

And what sort of top-secret Tulane Athletics plan am I supposed to be trusting here?

Key wouldn’t be getting a whiff of a look from Tech fans if he wasn’t a grad. People were screaming for him to be fired with Geoff, were pissed when Geoff hired him (because of negative recruiting against us at ucf), and generally thought him to be a dick.

The guy who immediately made GT competitive in the middle of a dumpster fire season, playing 3rd and 4th string QBs? I don’t share your opinion.

ETA O’Leary and PJ were both generally thought of as dicks.

Or he wants to retire in 4 or 5 years...

One last "grab a bag" and see what it is like to coach in the ACC for shits and giggles.
