quote:Yep, if Les left right now and we hired his exact clone named Mes Liles who was 28-21 at Okie St people would freak out. Or if we hired Sick Naban from Mich st whos record was 34-24 people would lose their shite too
and before people get fixated on records and such of those candidates, they seem to forget that miles was only 28-21 before coming to LSU. so it's not like he was some kinda smashing success.

LSU will make a good coach Great! and average coach good!
Curly Hallman.
That's my answer to that
Curly was neither a good, nor average coach (as evidenced by his career path since leaving LSU). He happened to catch lightning in a bottle with Brett Farve and parlayed that into hoodwinking Joe Dean.

Both Saban & Miles didn't really have impressive records before LSU. Mark Emmert really saw something in Nick & from what I understand Miles' ability to beat Bob Stoops at OU (2-2) was a big factor.

Make Todd Graham say no.

you mean in the nation? b/c i'm pretty sure Bama has done more while Les has been at LSU

A guy like Todd Graham, or Mike Gundy. It isn't like Saban or Miles were winning 10 games/year before coming to LSU.

it's not about some big name that can come in and continue or even elevate what les has done. you get someone in that's the right fit
'homerun' hires are rarely hit right off the bat.
they turn into homeruns 3-4 years down the line.

If memory serves correct, Emmert saw the value for the university with having a top notch football program and hired a search firm. Saban's name topped the list because of his immense reputation - regardless of record at MSU. Hence, LSU paying $1.6 mil/year - 3rd at the time in all of CFB to land him.

Revisit the old Michigan State pipeline to LSU.

Todd Graham - ASU
Justin Fuente, Memphis
Dana Holgorsen, West Virginia
Those are actual, real life, options.
Fisher, Vince Lombardi, and Jesus Christ are not going to take the LSU job. Sorry.

I really don't want Les to go, he is a decent QB away from a serious national title run in 15 and 16. But, if he left and I were AD, I would call the following 4:
Fisher
Patterson
Rodriguez
Mora
I think one of those 4 would take it. I would also add that if Fisher got the job, Muschamp would 100% be the DC. Also, if Rich Rod got the job, the stipulation would be that he keep Chief or get Muschamp

no way
and i doubt we take a look at my boy rich rod, either. too much of a drastic shift in philosophy
todd graham, however, is a natural fit if we want a guy with proven BCS-level success at a 2nd-tier program
fuente is a natural fit if we want to risk rolling the dice on an up-and-comer with limited non-BCS success (but potential)

won't happen. he'll bring casteel and the 3-3-5 and it would be interesting
the WV D was top 5 in 2007. people forget that

fricking horrific, would get run out of town after one year. in order to survive at LSU, you MUST MUST MUST have a good defense.

Texas settled with Strong and UF failed miserably with Muschamp. Now they're about to hire a relatively unknown guy with a few years of head coaching experience in the Mountain West Conference. Nebraska failed with Pelini. Michigan made the ultimate WTF hire with Hoke.
UF hired a coordinator with no HCing experience to take over a program 2 years removed from an NC shot.
Nebraska hired a coordinator with no HCing experience to take over a program.
Michigan hired a guy with minimal overall success at a legitimate program (one really good year at both Ball State and one at SDSU).
Texas held onto Mack too long, but likely made a very good hire in Strong. They are a rebuilding project, and Strong will need time to get them going, but you can already see the change in that team with an upward trend.
Hiring coaches is a risk, but you can take big risks (coordinators with no experience) or less risks (HC's with big game experience). Schools that took the coordinator route have seemed to have sucked or taken time to work.
Look at MSU with Croom and Mullen.
LSU just needs to find a guy that can handle the pressure and has experience. Do that, and they have a good shot at being successful. Rush into picking the "hot" name and you likely are in for a long struggle.
