The fact that Dooley is the #1 guy is embarrassing for Tennessee football... although they should be used to it by now after the last few years.

Why is it embarrassing? He could turn out to be a good coach. And I think he will.

Getting Harbough would be about the only coach at this point that'd make the Tenn. fan base feel good again...If they can't get him, they should just go interim and get someone after next season.

Dooley hasn't done shite to demonstrate he's going to be a good coach. Again if it weren't for his last name he wouldn't be mentioned for this job. He'd just be another coach at a small school with a poor record

Hopefully more than he knows about running the Bears.

I've thought all along that they should use Kippy for this season and then go on an all out search at seasons end.

Because he hasn't really done anything - isn't UT a big time program?

The poor record is based off this last season. When they've had a ton of people injured and even still, their losses are all very close.

I think the interim route is a bad idea. Not only will you really blow up this year's recruiting, but if you can't hire someone by mid-Feb, you probably won't be able to hire anyone until Dec and you will probably blow up another recruiting class.

Why would anyone leave Duke for UcheaT? Hahaha-

Maybe they should try some highschool coach. Probably be as good as the Kiffen hire.

Is this part of their long term strategy to stay in the headlines?

Mike Leach is still looking for a job!

And nobody in Knoxville will care if he locks anyone in a closet!

I don't think Dooley is a bad coach, and he would probably be a better coach if he didn't have to do the job of the AD as well as the HC. That being said, it's sad if UT hires him. They should be going after bigger names. If they don't hire someone the fan base can get behind, they will be in the same boat as LSU this year. I mean LSU hired a coach and everybody went uhhhhhh, he won a NC, lost a few games and half the people want him gone now. First impressions are hard to live down.

fwiw, i think its actually 12-12 , but its largely unfair because alot of those come from year 1 where he was rebuilding

at colleges like Tech, close losses should count for something when looking at coaches.....even with the bad year, they managed to keep it close with Boise and LSU. And why aren't injuries an excuse, rosters don't go as deep at a school like Tech.

Remember how negative everyone acted about the Chizik hire? It doesn't seem so bad now. I know its taking a chance, but UT might be down to that point now.

Dooley has accomplished as much as Kiffin. Maybe more. He's the AD at Tech, so that shows that he has admin skills that Kiffin doesn't have.

It would be a reach for most major colleges, but UT has already reached that low once.

Tech was the most injured team in the country this year.

Our starting WRs for half the year were 3rd string CBs for fricks sake.

Are you trying to justify why your coach should get another job?

A team's record alone is not conclusive as to the ability of its head coach. You seem to ignore the resources with which Dooley has to build a competative team. The talent of Dooley's players is not on the level of LSU, Auburn, Fresno State, or Boise State. Further, as several posters previously noted, Dooley's team has been crippled with injuries. Additionally, seven of Tech's twelve opponents played in bowls this year, and Tech played six of those seven schools on the road.
