If it ends up that A&M hires Robinson and people try to use the Dabo and O hirings/success as the reason to justify it, they really aren’t looking at this clearly.

First off O ha d previous head coaching experience (albeit historically bad) in the SEC, then had two stints as interim for the bulk of the seasons and had his teams beat legit opponents.

Robinson beat an FCS school and will have coached one FBS game as an interim.

Dabo had coached 7 games as interim and was 4-2 vs P5 teams in his stint as in interim.

Dabo’s extended success had more to do with keeping his OCs and DCs long term. That doesn’t happen in most cases because good coordinators like Venables don’t stick around that long. Since his coordinators left, Dabo has been mediocre. Shocker.

Now, is A&M willing to give Robinson 6 years to build his championship program like Dabo got? He won his first title in his 7th year post interim stint, so his second contract.

O inherited a great defensive coordinator and once he left, the team fell apart. He sold his soul for one year (2019) but he had experience coming in as a HC.

Robinson could be closer to Stewart at WVU after Rich Rod left. Bringing down what Rich Rod built and a disaster because he won a bowl game and the players loved him.

Be careful what you wish for A&M.

I would hope that plan would be to allow Robinson to essentially recruit full time and manage the players and lean on an OC and DC to handle the in game coaching, strategy, and game planning.

Robinson will be cheap, recruit like gangbusters, and get A&M some really good PR. If it doesn’t work, won’t cost much to reset down the road

Hmmm, this sounds vaguely familiar......

That was the plan with O, recruit be a cheerleader and just hire good OC and DC. It sounds like a viable plan until you realize that he can’t step in and fix one side of the ball and every hire has to be perfect.

Ed who had a failed stint to learn from said he would do better, the first time he had to make any decision he managed to hire a piss poor oc and dc.

Dabo had the advantage of 6 years, his oc and dc staying to build, a horrendous down acc, a sec with les miles and mark Richt to gift him wins to keep him afloat.

I think it’s harder to execute the ceo model coaching than most think.

Saban can always take over his D, same with Kirby.

A&M legitimately thought coaches would be begging to coach there when they fired Jimbo. Just an unreal turnout if they hire the interim.

Unless he actually wins out the gate and you extend him and say he goes into the ditch faster than a UGA player driving once he gets some success.

Of course I do think a title is worth the down crash after instead of always being a brides maid

Perhaps, but….how do you compare that to letting Jimbo dangle another year?

1) this was LSU’s plan with O. Do you think a guy that is head coach won’t have input on either side of the ball?

2) Robinson would be stupid to take the job in the cheap when he has A&M by the balls.

3) Are you willing to give him 7 years like Dabo got?

4) O was responsible for all the bad decisions on his staff and forcing his ideology on the assistants. I seriously doubt Robinson will be any different.

It’s hard for guys to put aside that they don’t know something and just let an expert do it.

O was probably more paranoid than most considering his move to get the job.

They’re trying to convince themselves this will work with all the same talking points O supporters used 7 years ago. It’s amazing to watch.

Unless another Joe burrow is out there on the transfer market, this will be a colossal failure. But I totally support them doing this.

It already cost $76 million.

Robinson might be more like Ole Miss Ed O.

LSU version of Ed - had failed head coach, and two successful interm stints and he still ran off the rails, but he at least delivered a title.

If A&M does hire Robinson any hope I had for them to make the jump is gone. What an idiotic move if this happens.
