Most likely to end up like Clay Helton. "Coordinator" who never had play calling duties that the players all love, but is in way over their head as a head coach. Never really had any success as an interim to justify a hiring.

Robinson is at least one of the best recruiters around for whatever that is worth in 2023 so that might keep the whole thing from bottoming out like USC.

Just hope is LSU Ed O and keeps the entire staff you have and maybe finds a transfer qb that doesn’t suck.

He can bring you a title and then get a divorce and bang blondes

If A&M has unlimited NIL money why are they thinking about hiring a guy with recruiting as their #1 quality?

Robinson is the culture right now. Coach Price was the culture before he passed away.

But otherwise, I get your point. Recruiting should be able to take care of itself.

either way, going to need really dynamic coordinators.

The problem with hoping for “dynamic coordinators” is they tend to leave after one year if they do great. If they don’t leave then they’re probably not very “dynamic.” Relying on great coordinators isn’t going to work when the head coach isn’t experienced enough to step in and fix things on one side or the other.

Yep. That is a risk. I think the portal risk is also part of the equation

Again, you have two different situations, but unless they are willing to be patient with a guy like Robinson like Clemson was with Dabo (7 years to his title), then they are in for heart ache with a guy that has 1 FBS game as an interim coach.

That was the plan with O

Pittman at Arky too.

The issue isn't the first few years, it's when you have mild success and your coordinators keep getting poached. You have to nail those hires every single time, because they are always going go leave for promotions.

The other issue is that often building a philosophy to hire a scheme within is often too complicated for guys who don't have the ability to be coordinators. I don't know if Robinson is this bad but you really saw it with O and offense. Dude had no idea how to run a defense let alone have opinions on implementing a philosophy of offense. Pittman is having the same issues in Arkansas.

Clemson was not Clemson when they hired Dabo. They had the same expectations as a TCU or Iowa at that point.
