Impressed with him leading SMU to a conference championship(with backup QB) for the first time in 40 years. Really well spoken in that post game interview as well. Or has this jobs prestige increased enough with them going to ACC that he wants to stay and build something??

I think with the expanded playoff and move to the ACC, SMU is a top 20 job. Rich recruiting grounds and big NIL pockets.

He could be in the mix for Arkansas if they have an opening after next year.

Absolutely.

They are 34th in talent composite right now as a G5 team.

TCU is 19.

ACC > B12.

SMU is about to start pulling top 20 talent.

They'll compete with Clemson and FSU for ACC titles in a few years

Arkansas has the 23rd ranked class, SMU is in the 60’s. With everyone knowing they are moving conferences.

Lashlee is in a unique position at SMU right now. It’s a program moving up, getting an infusion of cash from both boosters and a new conference, and he’s able to build the program to his specifications.

The portal will continue to be very beneficial to SMU. DFW produces a ton of talent. Even if he loses out on guys initially, many local kids see SMU as a viable transfer option.

SMU agreed to get zero ACC TV money for like 10 yrs. They will be all booster supported until then.

In saying that, SMU will never go back to its glory days. There simply isn't a big enough fanbase anymore for that school. Their stadium is also still pretty tiny by P5 standards. They are a solid G5 program but will not be able to compete against the big guns of the ACC unless their boosters offer double what other schools do.

SMU has at best the sixth largest fanbase in Texas. Look at their Mickey Mouse stadium. They will never be able to recruit toe-to-toe with Texas, A&M or even OU in Texas. The Mustang's best hope is get cast offs from those schools via the portal. They have a long way to go before becoming a legitimate threat to FSU and Clemson.

But if FSU and Clemson leave, no doubt SMU could be a player.

Yeah, and the conference would no longer be in any conversations… it would be the Big XII East
