Yep I think he’s the only one that can hold them together. I think $8MM guaranteed for 10 years should lock him in. If Alabama doesn’t do it then they are just OK with mediocrity.

Not sure why everyone is focusing on Rees. Locksley is the turd in that punchbowl.

Rees would be awful as well.

Seriously, do you think Greg Byrne is going to put his career on the line to hire Mike Locksley?

Norvell has owned Kelly. I’d be salty if bama hired him.

The Bama melt would be glorious with the hiring of either of those two.

The rare double melt from both Mizzou & Bama sides make this one even more intriguing.

Isn’t he 2-2 against Kelly?

I think it's basically done with somebody

Not a conspiracy theorist but I think Saban has known well before Weds announcement that he was retiring, which is likely why Steele retired last week after just 1 season

I'd bet they're organized and had a head start

Both matchups occurred as Norvell was reaching completion of restocking the roster at FSU & getting the losing stench off that program.

While on the other hand Kelly is still trying to reload the talent & depth at LSU specifically on the defensive side of the ball after Coach O left it a complete mess.

Wow please Mike Locklsey. He’s a great recruiter and OC but I wonder if he could handle the Alabama pressure

Steele announced his retirement Monday right before the National Championship Game. It wasn't last week.

Not quite. He was going through staff interviews as late as Wednesday morning.

It really was a last minute decision for him.

quote:

"It was a hard decision," Saban said. "Look, I love coaching. I love the relationships with the players. The thing that made it more difficult for me is I felt like it might be the right time for me, but how it impacted the players, the coaches, all the people who work here in the building and contributed to the success of the team -- how would it affect them?

"That was the hard part and that was the part that I kept vacillating on, back and forth until I was on the phone -- we had a meeting at 4 o'clock. It was 3:55. I was sitting in my chair, looking at the clock, saying you've got five minutes to decide what speech you're going to give.

Wonder if Saban left a note recommending Rees like he did when he left LSU suggesting Houston Nutt.
