Why? It’s the same due diligence you would do for any other coach.
I would hope Woodward would be looking more at their entire bodies of work than more than a single season.
I don't think some coach having some arbitrary win-loss record in the 2021 season should have much bearing on whether they're deserving of the LSU job.

Look how opinions have shifted on James Franklin during the season
Whose opinion? Fans? This year's team isn't much different than his teams in previous years. He's a decent coach that runs a solid program. Not holding onto 4th quarter leads in a couple of games this year doesn't really change who he's been his entire career.

Woodward already has his coach.

This isn’t the same situation as FSU
He's saying that if W/L record in a single season was a factor, then Woodward wouldn't have hired Jimbo coming off a 6-6 record at FSU.

Think about recent national title level contenders: Clemson - Veneble (sp) Bama - duh LSU - Aranda Georgia - Kirby
Ohio St
Outside of UGA which is insane defense, they have all had top offenses. Including LSU.
Would be nice to see LSU have an elite QB HC and never have to worry about that, but that’s just me. Seems like this is what wins college football today. It may end up costing UGA come playoff time. Miles did a good job hiring Chavis and Aranda at LSU.
The places you mention offenses coaches don’t work aren’t at the top programs though. I think it would work very well at LSU. I do like Aranda though.

And, I know people that were very close to him.
That’s complete bullshite. Now, did he enjoy Mr Ed? Nope.
There’s a notable element that won’t be around soon.

He's also adamant its not Riley, Tucker, or napier.
quote:
Woodward probably offered Riley - TBD. If no answer now, probably not happening.
Then probably overtures to Jimbo and knows he can woo him, but does he have the motivation to?
Knows he can get Aranda and maybe at this point has locked him in depending on where the first two are. All while talking to various agents and other coaches over the phone as due diligence (Napier, Franklin, Tucker, etc.). I could see this being the order of operations.
i think this was more order of operations.I think they felt out tucker and felt tucker wanted to stay at msu.
felt out ficekl and it was a hard no from his side
talked to franklin and LSU ran and said frick no
i think they felt out Jimbo and just felt like it was going to be stupid hard to get him to come here for essentially same money, same division etc
offered riley after talking to agent, havent gotten an answer
from there i think its gotten series with napier and aranda and Dave due to familiarity is prolly the pick.
honestly i could get behind the following
1) riley
2) Cristobal
3) Jimbo
4) Aranda
5) Napier
i could even do kiffin as i know it would be fricking fun atleast.
but please sweet 3 pound baby jesus dont let it be franklin. please.

Of course a coach’s entire body of work is taken into consideration; Tucker has NFL HC experience. The thing you have to understand is that, almost no AD including Woodward can truly measure a coaches on-field acumen. Woodward can’t hop on a whiteboard and start diagramming plays. So when it comes to on-field coaching Woodward is relying others (former coaches, players) to help guide his decision. Woodward will be a lot more hands-on when it comes to assessing the coach off the field (i.e. character).
James Franklin’s inability to maintain focus during the season along with game collapses are starting to show that maybe the pressure/spotlight is a little too much for him right now.

yeah realistically right now I think its one of these in no particular order
Jimbo, Aranda, Napier, or an NFL coach we aren't discussing.
Riley is far and away my #1 but seems like such a long shot.

I think this is over-rated. Orgeron sucked because he sucked. Had nothing to do with being a "CEO" type.
Big time coaches are all CEO types in today's game.

FSU went 6-6 and fell apart because of funding. The same issues that started with Jimbo still persist today with Norvell. Woodward just like every other P5 administrator were aware of these issues at FSU.

The only "CEO"-type coaches (which I'm defining as a coach that is not the architect of the system run on either side the ball) that have sustained national relevance are Dabo and Brian Kelly.
Dabo, however, has an excellent DC who refuses to leave, which makes him an extreme outlier. But now that Jeff Scott is gone, Clemson's offense is a mess and they're an average team.
Oklahoma - Riley's offense
Ohio State - Day's offense
Alabama - Saban's everything (but esp. defense)
Georgia - Smart's defense
and so on and so forth.

Say what?
Jimbo was recruiting at an elite level at FSU. His last four classes finished 4, 3, 3, & 6. There was plenty of talent on that 2017 team.

Urban Meyer has never been a coordinator on any level.
Posted on 11/2/21 at 11:48 am to whitefoot
FIFY: Jimbo was paying recruits at an elite level (i.e. Winston, Ramsey)
What do you think they pay recruits with? All the players knew Jimbo was out the door once his funding proposal got denied.

That doesn’t make Urban’s offenses not his. He’s very clear and public that the coordinators he hires are implementing his vision even if he’s not calling the plays.

Considering the job Saban and Kirby smart are doing I’d definitely value DC over Oc
Other than Saban, the last handful of championships were won by offensive minded programs.
LSU in 2019, Dabo and Clemson, Urban at OSU and Florida, Cam Newton at Auburn, Mack Brown, etc.

I agree here, but which side of the ball should the LSU hire be? I say defense (Tucker).
The general rule is you go opposite of what the former guy was. Orgeron was a Defense guy, Miles was Offense, Saban was defense, DiNardo was offense.
So take that as it is.

kelly has always had a huge hand in the offense and in some ways its always been his. thats like saying because saban or smart have a DC, its not their defense.
