it is not Tucker. ETA: not because I don't want him.....who the hell am I to render a worthwhile opinion dealing with something as complex as todays game?!

I know you are angled on that.......and you seemed to have seen some bread crumbs. trust me. its not him.

when? you have become obsessed with being anti napier

quote:

You're just a biased Homer and you have no other angle. You give Napier the benefit of the doubt in everything he does while slashing other coaches who slip up even once.

Explain to me how Napier is such a Saban-ite but Kiffin and Tucker aren't?

how am i a homer, napier isnt even my top pick. in fact he is barely top 3.

and how in the hell is kiffin like saban? he is the exact opposite. wild, doenst pay attention to details, impulsive. he has never put together back to back good seasons before.

tucker....nobody said napier is a better candidate than tucker. both are extremely well thought of in the industry.

i think what napier did is impressive and honestly think he is a beast recruiter and great management guy. I do not think his offense is as good as kiffin in any shape or form but to me he is a better HC.

in the end im a anyone but frankling guy who would prefer we not go after kiffin as i think we are looking for new coach after 5 years if that is the case.

I’ve always said if Mel Tucker finishes the season with a 9-2 record or better the job at LSU is his.

Question: What makes you so certain that Tucker is not being considered for the LSU job?

it does. the thing one needs to look at is the layman's fixation on offensive minds and their ultimate success. Think about recent national title level contenders: Clemson - Veneble (sp) Bama - duh LSU - Aranda Georgia - Kirby

I don't know about this. 4 of the 7 CFP champions have had an offense better than their defense, including the most recent 2. By SP+:

2020 Alabama: 1st off, 6th def
2019 LSU: 1st off, 20th defense
2018 Clemson: 5th off, 3rd defense
2017 Alabama: 11th off, 1st defense
2016 Clemson: 3rd off, 6th defense
2015 Alabama: 23rd off, 1st defense
2014 Ohio State: 4th off, 24th defense

The average champion's offense sp+ is 7. The average champion's defense sp+ is 9. Getting rid of the two outliers (23rd off, 24th def), the average O is 4 and the average D is 6.

Only one team has one a title with an offense SP+ 20 or lower. Two teams have won titles with a defense sp+ 20 or lower.

That doesn't scream "efficient application" is all that's needed on offense. Instead, you need balance. The lower one of your units (with a floor at about 20), the higher your another units need to be. But no matter what, both units need to be elite or near-elite status.

i think what many are saying is that most of the offensive coaches that have been hired have strictly focused too much on offense and it seems the defensive hires have been more balanced.

You honestly believe this season is an audition for the LSU job?

Sure, too much focus on one at the expense of the other is an issue, but a unit's offense is slightly (though probably not statistically significantly) more predictive of national championship success than one's defense.

You need to have both, but your offense typically needs to be relatively better than your defense does.

I'd say he prefers the offensive minds since he's hired Chris Peterson at Washington and then Jimbo at A&M.

Yes, it turned into an audition about 2-4 games into the season.

People needed to see if what they were hearing about him was actually true.

And only one had an actual offense oriented HC (Urban - Ohio State, although it was Herman running the offense).

Dabo (former walk-on WR) doesn’t count because he’s never actually called an offense.

There’s a notable element that won’t be around soon.

He's also adamant its not Riley, Tucker, or napier.

I sure hope you're wrong. This seems like a very reactionary and short-sighted way to analyze a potential coaching candidate especially when you already have an opening.

Not much of a sample size, though. You don't get to quad dip on Saban

1 HC with defensive expertise (Saban)
1 HC with offensive expertise (Urban)
2 CEOs (Orgeron, Dabo)

But if you want to divide orgeron and dabo up, it'd be 2 defense-oriented, 2 offense-oriented.

Woodward probably offered Riley - TBD. If no answer now, probably not happening.

Then probably overtures to Jimbo and knows he can woo him, but does he have the motivation to?

Knows he can get Aranda and maybe at this point has locked him in depending on where the first two are. All while talking to various agents and other coaches over the phone as due diligence (Napier, Franklin, Tucker, etc.). I could see this being the order of operations.

Why? It’s the same due diligence you would do for any other coach. Look how opinions have shifted on James Franklin during the season. Everything is evaluated and taken into consideration. Just because you weren’t high on Tucker at the beginning of the season, doesn’t mean that others weren’t.

You might want to reflect on Jimbo's path to aTm......

Your “opinion” again?

This isn’t the same situation as FSU, that school is struggling to get funding and new facilities. Which created a major rift between Jimbo and the administration. A&M was always going to pay Jimbo the most; they offered him essentially a new life coming fresh off of his divorce.
