I agree with the OP.
I guess it's working for Dabo but mostly because Venables sticks around.
Not to derail the thread but it needs stating that Saban and Bama's defense has stunk for awhile. Aranda is a much better strategist than Nick.

That's a tough sale. Nick has proven success. Aranda is a .500 coach right now. Time will tell.

Sorry, I should have clarified I was speaking with respect to defense. Aranda is better than Nick as a defensive strategist. IMO, it's not even close now.

This is a joke. He isn’t able to throttle bad teams with better talent in a minor conference. When he coached against a 1-5 Arky st team with a better HC, I saw enough. Same thing versus other rebuilding programs. Two of the 3 that played him close will pass him next season due to coaching. I don’t give 2 shits about where he called plays. He can’t be squeezing by teams wirh far less talent like Miles used to do.
