It was always a concern of any defensive coach promoted that left working under Saban, that he was always the defensive genius behind everything. Just wondering if any one has any concern if that’s the case here?

Did you see their Defense in the bowl game against UGA, then did you see their offense in the bowl game against UGA?

Was Joe Brady just a product of Sean Payton? Is Jake Peetz just a product of Joe Brady? You can ask that question about pretty much any hiring.

That's why you have interviews with them and learn their coaching philosophy

He could know a quarter of what Fickell knows, call 1% of their D, have the whole football world fooled, and still have a far superior D than Poohlini's 2020 bombs over baghdad defense IMO...GDT's

I am not worried about this, but his point is a Fickell was a good DC at Ohio State before he took the Cincy Job.

Joe Brady wasn't hired to call plays by himself after leaving the same position under the offensive guru that is Payton.

Freeman is being asked to call plays by himself away from the defensive guru that is Fickell. Remember that 59-0 game OSU had in a conference title game a few years back? Urban Meyer said that was ”all Like Fickell."

We've never seen Freeman call plays outside of being under Fickell when he was the sole DC. So yes it's a concern, but not a very big one.

Freeman literally has full autonomy over the defense at UC. This is public knowledge from their folks.

He calls the plays. He schemes, etc.

He’s running the show.

I keep harping on this. We literally had the worst passing defense in the country last year. If we even had an average defense then we win at least two more games

Just look at Saban’s DCs. It’s his defense, but he doesn’t hire bums to fetch coffee. He wants a guy who can run all of the day to day while he runs the program. Goulding is probably the worst of the bunch and he doesn’t suck. Kirby is a top recruiter and a good to great head coach. Pruitt may not be a good HC, but he’s a first class DC.

It may not be exactly the same situation, but good defensive-minded head coaches still want a good DC with them to do the heavy lifting. Fickell obviously has a lot of respect for and trust in Freeman. That says a lot to me about his potential to take the next step and handle a defense on his own.

When i was being recruited to play baseball at LSU after the 2009 title, the coach told me that they were not comparing me to the rest of the high school players, but to National Champion standards. We won't compare Freeman to Poohlini, but to the LSU standard of performance.

That was 2014 vs Wisconsin. The Wisconsin DC at the time was Aranda. Up until then Aranda's D was #4 in the nation in scoring D.

Isn’t everyone just a product of someone else?

He has full control over Cincinnati's defense. That is his defense.

Doesn't seem to affect the Saban assistants getting positions.

Grats on being a stud...more so my point is that with LSU being LSU and having LSU athletes everywhere IMO it doesnt take a brain trust to get us back to LSU standards. Sure I want the next Joe Brady, but point of the matter is we still have the baws, we just need COMPETENT coaching to get us back to LSU D. Again, just my $0.02...GDT's
