Bill Bellichick couldn't stop anyone with that defensive talent.

Tenuta was stopping ppl at GT with similar if not lesser talent.

Kelly would be dumb to go to ND. Most coaches would be dumb to go there.

ND could double whatever Cinci is paying him.

No, GT had more talent.

Here's how it works. Notre Dame qualifies all potential recruits first and foremost by whether they can qualify academically. Once that list is established, the truly talented pool is greatly diminished. Once ND starts calling on what are really 2 start recruits, the Rivals and other recruiting sites immediatly bump the players to four and five star. Why do they do this? Because there are a zillion ND fans who read their information and want to here this.

So, every year the perception is that ND is bringing in a good recruiting class. Please research their defensive NFL talent the past 10 years, and compare it to Georgia Tech.

FWIW, I have heard that ND is prepared to offer Saban 8 Million Per year to coach them.

If that is the case....which is could be...then Saban will be the next Coach at ND.

And it is not that farfetched....we are talking about ND....who locked charlie wiess up for 10 + years for like 4 mill a year.

I'd go with Meyer, Brian Kelly, and possibly Jim Harbaugh (although I doubt they want to go the Stanford route again).

Before they flat can charlie, they need to get Tenuta the frick out of there for a year and see what happens. He's abysmal

Yet he was able to be successful as a DC at Georgia Tech...

man most of these kids are recruited by the top schools in their region also

ND gets a bump for sure, but it's not a 2 star to 4 star bump

whether they are 2 or 4 star they still require good coaching to reach their potential. every one of these guys on defense were highly recruited yet none are turning out to be good players. their defense is terrible every year that weiss has been there.

Tech has more active defensive players, with a bunch of 2 or 3 star recruits. So my point stands. He was coaching up similarly talented players better at GT than he has at ND.

Does it seem too obvious that Kelly would get this job, so much so that it won't happen that way?

ND has made some recent gamble hires. Except for Holtz in 1985, they've hired Davie, O'Leary (for a week), Willingham, and Weis. They should be desparate to make a safe pick.

If they're smart, they won't do anything with Weis until they've already got their guy in the wings. Otherwise, it'll be a wild goose chase.

They'll probably go after Meyer, Stoops, etc. but probably won't wait out for them. I think TCU's Patterson may be a dark horse candidate.

Brian Kelly and TCU's Patterson are my two favorite coaches out there right now.

Notre Dame needs a proven winner at the top level, and that's who they will target. just my opinion
