I think it's the biggest reach hire possible.

I don’t understand why Napier would be offered before aranda. Makes no sense to me

Aranda supposedly hasn't embraced recruiting and it's a concern.

I would be ok with that. At this point for me, it is Riley or a meh hire after that. Not that Aranda isn’t a great option, I just think Napier is in that same class. If Dave goes to sc and we get Napier, we won’t cross paths with him very much, if ever. Riley is clearly the main target, after that he’ll I don’t care, either would be better than O.

Then do it, give him everything needed for the best assistants, ongoing improved facilities and academic support then let it play out over the next 3-4 years. It will take several years to consistently be the best again. And pay him big $$ for winning.

Did the person at lunch tell you what's up with Riley?

Nope, he was the one who told me ~12.5M per about 2.5/3 weeks ago for Riley. I have never wavered. I passed that along a while ago and still think it’s Riley. He was and is the only person that was told the job is theirs if they want it. Not Jimbo, not Tucker, not Franklin.

That just seems backwards to me. Aranda has proven he can succeed at the highest level. All of his defenses speak for themselves and he's getting better and better at Baylor, evidenced by his last victory over an undefeated highly ranked blue blood (that word may be a stretch...but you get it).

Napier has basically done a really decent job...at UL? I mean, I get that he has some connections in Louisiana but apparently if what you say is true, the powers-that-be see alot more in him than the rest of us. FWIW, I think he's a damn good coach and wouldn't "melt" if he got the job.

I find it hard to believe that a guy who clearly wants to be a head coach in college football doesn’t want to recruit.

49 games as HC (4 seasons)
37-12, 26-5 in conference
30-5 in last 35
4 straight divisional titles

vs

19 games as HC (2 seasons)
10-9, 7-9 conference
8-2 in last 10 games

Pretty clear cut IMO.

Forgot about that. I just don’t see us have many recruiting battles with him out there, won’t see them much on tv, outside of the playoffs we wont be playing them. I think everyone involved would be happy if we saw him in the playoffs, lol.

the wants it bad angle people keep throwing around as if its a feather in his cap or something

O really does the guy coaching a Sun Belt team in Lafayette REALLY want a top 5 job in the premier college football conference? Shocking!! We must lock him up immediately. WAIT....and he'll work for substantially less than more qualified candidates? HOLY frick GET HIM YESTERDAY!!!!!

Woodward must think astronomically little of Aranda

This is simply just not true. The truth is Aranda is flirting heavily with USC right now, so if LSU strikes out with Aranda, they can simply say Napier was their choice before him anyway. It's all BS being thrown around to save face in case of rejection. I know for a FACT that Aranda is higher on the list.

Napier would be kind of underwhelming considering what Woodward goes after would lose a little street cred cause you know at that point he swung & missed. Hard sell as his #1 target
