Can confirm this (subscribe to

, we hit this on Wednesday) insomuch as the AD hiring search and potential department restructuring is being done with that particular candidate in mind

The University of Miami will try to hire Mario Cristobal as Hurricanes head coach “in coming days,” Miami Herald’s @flasportsbuzz reports.
That would be a helluva pull...getting him to leave the school with just south of unlimited NIL money. Alma mater or not, Dude would have to be insane.

So, since the Miami board of supervisors is in total disarray over the AD hire, they've decided to just let the coach hire the AD?

Miami thinks they can pull Cristobal from Oregon? I can see the sell- hey Mario, pay no attention to the Nike money or our dumpster fire of an athletic department and come join the U!!!

I suspect Cristobal's answer will still be no though. Unless Miami suddenly gives him assurances that they'll match what he has at Oregon in regards to staff budget, recruiting budget, and facility upgrades. But I doubt that happens.

Why would he leave Oregon for Miami??
Posted on 12/3/21 at 1:53 pm to 1999
The U is a mess right now and that's probably common knowledge. Its not a secret.
Cristobal looks like an elite-level coach to me, and he's in a great job at Oregon. He can remain in contention for Pac12 titles there if he stays hungry and motivated.
The absolute only way he leaves for Miami, is if they throw some gigantic amount of guaranteed years and money at him with the understanding that it's going to take him a few years to get Miami back into contention. Like 3 years of recruiting and building.

They are pissing in the wind. No way he leaves Oregon for Miami. They can't outbid Oregon. Their facilities are trash and even if they wanted to compete in this area they don't have the money to get close to Oregon. Unless Cristobal just wants to be at Miami or is insane which if that is the case they can't compete with that.

Oregon has offered Mario Cristobal a new extended contract, @johncanzanobft reports. “It’s aggressive & in line w/what we’ve seen this week,” source told @johncanzanobft

Manny should just go ahead and resign. He's a lame duck at best.
I don't think Miami will ever sniff glory days again even if they get Cristobal.

One of the worst jobs in college football. Lousy facilities, get 20k in attendance, stadium almost an hour from campus.

They would both be crazy to leave where they are now for the U. That place is a mess.

Lol if it’s so bad, how on earth are we going to hire this AD that we just hired? Some y’all are stuck in 1997 lol

They will get Cristobal. Word is Miami is trying to get out of their Adidas deal to go back to Nike and that some members of Cristobal's extended family are influential donors and some are on the board of trustees. Cristobal wants Miami back with Nike because of his ties to Nike. Miami is also said to be waiting to hire an AD that Mario agrees with. Miami is in alignment for Cristobal.

He's from, played, and coached at Miami. Miami is screwed up but the pull is obvious. Plus, USC is about to take the Pac-12 from Oregon.

That would be a great hire for Miami.
However, I would be shocked if Cristobal left Oregon for Miami.

We are better out that we got a great AD that cares about the programs of the school.. Without a good AD no school is going go step up..

Miami herald saying they are very confident they’ll land Mario. Announcement could be made by Tuesday.
