Head coaching record at Iowa State:

2016= 3-9
2017= 8-5
2018= 8-5
2019= 7-6
2020= 9-3
2021= 7-5

42-33

Not impressive at all. Let’s hire the mediocre coach who struggles to win after 6 years in the weakest power five conference in the country.

I would rather have the ULL coach.

bruh, he's a good coach. Iowa state traditionally has terrible recruits - it's basically impossible

Your point is dumb

Napier had no problem blowing out Campbell in Ames 31-14 either

Campbell is a good football coach and is universally acknowledged as one in coaching circles.

Don't discount how tough a job Iowa State is. He would do well with Lsu caliber athletes.

Without looking, what would you say is the difference in winning percentage between pre-LSU Saban and Matt Campbell?

These simple-minded threads that just look at overall records usually indicate an OP who doesn't really pay attention to college football.

He’s beaten every notable coach in the Big 12 during that period. shite, he beat Lincoln Riley and Tom Herman more than once, IIRC. He needs more talent and program support.

Saban and Campbell pre-LSU resumes certainly have a lot of similarities…

-both at little brother schools
-records/resume at that first big job are very similar
-both built program to NY6-type bowl in 5 years
-both started as HC at Toledo
-both supposedly thought of highly in NFL circles and by Belichick

Saban
1990 Toledo HC
1995 Michigan State 6-5
1996 Michigan State 6-6
1997 Michigan State 7-5
1998 Michigan State 6-6
1999 Michigan State 9-2 (Citrus Bowl)

Campbell
2012-2015 Toledo HC
2016 Iowa State 3-9
2017 Iowa State 8-5
2018 Iowa State 8-5
2019 Iowa State 7-6
2020 Iowa State 9-3 (Fiesta Bowl)
2021 Iowa State 7-5

Napier

The obvious hire that made the most sense for LSU. That’s why he is at Florida.

Iowa St has won 8 games 6 times in the last 100 years. He has 2 of them. They have won 9 wins 2 times in the last 100 years. He has 1 of them.

Winning 7-9 wins with worse history, facilities, recruiting budget, stadium, in state talent, than any team in the conference of major power 5 conference.

To add, I think MSU in the 90's was easier to recruit to than ISU is today.

He is a wild card at best. A Tom Herman type hire.

The only reason why Iowa State is not the worst team in the conference historically, is because they share a conference with Kansas.

Lol more Googling of records to make sweeping judgements with zero context. Love it.

Go walk around Ames, Iowa for a bit and then let’s talk.
