Matt loves to recruit. He just does it right now with two hands behind his back. Got the #23 class in Ames.

I don’t think it’s MC btw. Just don’t think it’s fair to bash the guy. Not many people can do what he did at ISU.

That’s like taking Vanderbilt to the Fiesta Bowl and beating Oregon.

The guy went 9-3 at Iowa State and has turned down 2 NFL gigs and interviewed for 2 others. He can coach both sides of the ball and is considered one of the best x's and o's guys in the sport. Get a clue.

If LSU fired O last year and hired Campbell it would've been loved, I doubt he's much different of a coach now. Don't love the 3-3-5 look though and he'd need a bigtime OC.

Top 10 rated in the preseason and suffered 5 losses.

Next.

you literally just described Saban before we hired him. Truth is, nobody knows how success translates across regions/schools so you need to actually understand the attributes that would make a coach successful before hiring them.

Saban was a beast at another school prior to Michigan St.

He proved it at two schools.

Where was Campbell prior? I am genuinely asking.

I don’t put any thought into 2020 good or bad. I sort of dismiss it.

People will say it’s Iowa St! It’s still kind of an avg conference. They started the season beating NORTHERN IOWA 16-10?

Look what Mich St did in the BIG this season. I still prefer someone else over a coach that always has 5 loss seasons. I actually think he could be more successful in the pros over an LSU. Just my opinion. Would still prefer a HC known for elite QB play or a serious recruiter.

Napier had no problem blowing out Campbell in Ames 31-14 either

And DiNardo beat Saban.

He doesn’t have a FRACTION of the resources, support, etc. that Herman had at Texas (and maybe Houston) and still beat him twice

That terrible Texas team beat the almighty Napier this year.

ISU beat them by a wide margin.

Context matters.

Looks like they both started at Toledo? That answers my previous question.

Campbell seemed to have really good success there.

Why does everyone act like iowa state isn’t talented and didn’t massively underachieve?

Mackey Award finalist
Doak Walker finalist
Multi-year starting QB
Reigning conference defensive player of the year at LB
First round pick at DE
Reigning conference newcomer of the year at WR
A returning 1st team all-conference center

This team lost five times.

Campbell did great in the covid year. Then rode preseason expectations and a top 10 ranking to five losses.

You do realize Iowa State is 7-77 all time against Oklahoma, and Matt Campbell has 2 of those wins. Clueless people are clueless. Iowa State was considered one of the worst jobs in college football just 5 years ago.
