I wouldn't even wait. Hire Helfrich. No scandal, offensive mind, gives us a very nice set of coordinators.

I never liked him as HC. However, I like him as a coordinator. If LSU wants to go with spread concepts, he is a great choice.

He was the coordinator during one of the best offensive runs in the the history of football and was good enough to work for Chip Kelly. I'll take it.

He reminds of an offensive Dave Aranda - Great offensive mind, self assuming, calm demeaner and a teacher mentality

Do your research.

He had a lot to do with a couple other QBs that had stats LSU could only dream about - ever - before Mariota.

Wait til after bowl season and you'll be facing him the first Saturday in November each year. Saban will go get him over Sarkisian in a New York minute.

Oregon was ranked 20 in total offense this season

Helfrich is a really sharp guy that lacks a lot of people skills. He can run an offense. Oregon hasn't needed an offense since he's been HC.

Current LSU with a top 20 offense is a championship team. We don't need to be top 10 offensively if our defense is so dominant.

I still personally believe Lane is more versatile than helfrich and Sark. Lane can use his strengths well. He developed a true freshman and brought in a west coast offense to Bama. The LSU game is the only game they've scored less than 30 points. I like how he uses the spread to run a west coast offense but still uses power runs

What were they ranked prior to that over the last 8 years?

----------------------------------------------------
They've had no worse than about 3,000 yards in passing each of the seven years before this season. Mariota's final two years were 3,665 followed by 4,454. 2015 dropped back to about 3,300 yards in passing.

Having a top 20 ovens while starting 3 red shirt offensive lineman and a red shirt quarterback is awesome.

He's bald so he must be as good as Aranda. We'll be the only to with 2 bald coordinators. I guess that's why some of you think he's the right guy.

His offense is number 20 this year, no doubt that it would be way worse next year with him calling the plays. So many drives stalled just like we did this year.

He's getting way to much credit for Chip and Scott's top 8 offenses. He never called plays under Chip. Someone said he must be good because Chip hired him. Well, he hired his friend and that worked out great for Cam and Les.

And yet, no one has hire the guy. Maybe because he only ran an offense for one year. Crowton took over for Jimbo and broke the scoring record. He must be a great offensive genius, no?

Helfrich is actually a protege of Dirk Koetter and has no relationship with Chip Kelly prior to being hired as offensive coordinator at Oregon, that I could find.

Helfrich is from Oregon, while Kelly is from the northeast. Their paths never crossed until Oregon.

I have not read the whole thread but the only team in FBS to rely on transfer Qb's more than LSU is Oregon.

That is not a good sign! The fact they cannot recruit and develop a Qb but have to rely on transfers is a problem many Lsu fans are all to familiar with.
