SU would be foolish to just throw up hands and say "well he probably wants to go to TX....we'll settle for Jimbo. "
Exactly.
I can only hope LSU will realize the investment worth.

Said this in another thread... but do you think we are already?

They're not doing their jobs if they havent already contacted reps of Herman, Jimbo, and others. That was one of the main reasons to fire mid-season, to get a jump on the coaching search. No reason to fart around now that we have an opening.

I'm ok with Herman, but he is an unproven power confrence HC!
Texas should make a hard run at Saban and Urban with very deep pockets first.

Whoever gets him is going to have a dynasty on their hands and be a perennial top 5 team for the next 20 years.
Herman won't be at whatever school he ends up at for the next 20 years, imo. Seems like a bit much. I would guess he takes a shot at the nfl at some point, but who knows.

All I can think about with Herman is he could very well be the next Sumlin.
This keeps running through my mind.

When would LSU be foolish once the bidding starts??
At what dollar figure do we stop throwing money at Herman is the real question. This may have nothing to do with LSU academics but the perception of spending 5,6 or 7 million dollars a year for the coach of LSU football is hard to sell?
LSU could get Coach O or Kiffen for half these prices.
I just do not see LSU hiring Herman or Jimbo from the money perception only.
I agree, most people want Herman and so do I and the big question is does Herman want us and do we want to spend big dollars to get him.
LSU needs to stabilize the system and the sooner the better after the season ends, right now it looks like Houston will be headed to the BCS final 4 and will Herman string us along only to either stay in Houston or get into a high stakes bidding war with Texas or USC

Herman flubbed against U Conn last year...a U Conn program that is yet to score an offensive touchdown against Tulane in 2 games. If he can flub U Conn he can flub Mis State or the like.
Fans are unrealistic. 10 wins is a big accomplishment. Some years the ball will bounce your way and you'll win 11 or 12 and be in the playoff. Other years it will go against you and you'll get 9.
The only exceptions I've seen are the true tier one programs and of those only Alabama, Ohio State and USC have accomplished that consistently over a number of years this century. Fla state too I guess - which is why Fisher clamor makes sense and is somewhat realistic.

This is a top 5 job with easily a top 10 current program. If you want to stay that way then you have to pay. We are also one of the most profitable Athletic Departments in the country. Dont be stupid.

And possibly get half the results.

We just fired a national championship winning coach because he wasnt winning football games. You really think they did they so they can pay someone else less money?

Not to mention we'd be paying Mile's buyout and picking up Herman's to Houston. So, we'd be paying Miles, Herman, and Houston. You're right, I think it may be a hard sell. But if you identify "your guy," you've got to be prepared to pony up--you can't get outbid at the 5-6 million level. Now, if UT wants to get crazy and offer him 10 mil/per, then it may be time to move on. But they'd have to offer him something absurd before we bow out. Again, if we have identified him as our guy.
