He actually has dc experience. Albeit at a low level. D2 Bowie state he was the dc.

He was really fricking good there too.
My main problem is that was the last time he ran a whole defense and it was from 2005-2009.
He also had success at Wisconsin and Hawaii as a DB coach improving both of those units from what he inherited.
If he is the guy I think it’s a very meh hire but not a disaster. I honestly don’t need a splashy name though. I just want them to go out and find the guy who can do the job. If he’s the guy then cool let’s roll with it. If he fails then heads will roll.

Think that's the assumption some are having in here. He's not qualified candidate and the only reason they're considering him is because he's black for a Rooneyish rule.

The upcoming season is a rare exception when most of your team returns. In order to continue to convince future draft eligle underclassmen to return, you need a quality DC.

He drastically improved Hawaii and Wisconsin when he came in as DB coach.
Hawaii was 85th in passing defense in 2011 and were 11th in 2012. 2012 was Jones first year on the island and 2011 was Dave Aranda’s last year there. I’m not saying that Jones deserves the credit for that improvement, I honestly don’t know but he undeniably helped to drastically improve upon Dave Aranda’s defense at Hawaii.
He also coached under Aranda at Wisconsin in 2015 where they only allowed 7 passing TDs on the season and only gave up 173 passing yards per game.
I don’t know if he’ll make a good coordinator for us or not but I don’t understand the outrage at giving the guy an interview.

I think it has little to do with race and a lot to do with credible coaches not wanting the job.

U clearly didn’t get my point my point is Bo Pelini was so trash even our dbs looked trash at times last year but under Aranda they showed promise a db coach can only do so much if players aren’t getting the defensive scheme as a unit then you’ll have trash results as we did in the secondary this year

I agree. I’m pretty sure everyone agrees on that. It’s obvious.
But there is absolutely no harm done by interviewing this guy.

We already turned down Arnette because he didn’t impress in the interview. Why would this be any different?
When this hiring process started everyone wanted O and Woodward to do their due diligence and interview as many candidates as possible and make the right choice.
That’s exactly what they’re doing right now and this whole board is melting the frick down over it. It’s insanity.

Derrick Mason was accepted.
