LSU will interview Daronte Jones for DC

quote:

Sources: #LSU will interview #Vikings defensive backs coach Daronte Jones for its defensive coordinator job on Sunday. Jones has coached DBs at Wisconsin, Hawaii and UCLA, as well as with the Bengals and Dolphins, and in the CFL. Jones also coached at two Louisiana high schools.

Are we happy or furious about this? That Vikings defense was terrible last year.

I don't know who he is, so I won't melt or anything, but agreed, as a Vikings DB coach, that is very unimpressive. Their defense has been garbage the past couple years, so idk.

Does nobody else want to come to LSU. Just interviewing random journey men position coaches. Lol. He may be great, never heard of the guy. but he’s never been a DC at any level. Maybe high school.

He has been a DC before.....at Bowie State (D2).

quote:

Jones was named assistant head coach/defensive coordinator at Bowie State from 2005-09. His defense finished in the top three nationally in three of his five seasons.

Also coached with Aranda at Wisconsin.

quote:

Prior to the NFL, Jones served as defensive backs coach at the University of Wisconsin in 2015, as the Badgers led the nation with just seven passing touchdowns allowed. Wisconsin's passing defense ranked second in the Big Ten and seventh nationally, allowing 173.2 pass yards per game.

And has Louisiana ties.

quote:

Prior to his time at Bowie State, Jones served as defensive coordinator at two Louisiana high schools — Jeanerette (2004) and Franklin (2003). He also spent the 2002 season coaching safeties at Nicholls State after beginning his coaching career in 2001 as a graduate assistant at Lenoir-Rhyne University in North Carolina.

With O, nothing surprises me anymore.

This guy even getting an interview is laughable.

Uga side said LSU reached out. Must not have been interested if that’s all we’ve heard about it.

O thinks he knows defenses and only wants to hire a 4-3 guy.. “4-3/NFL guy” is a small group to choose from. Most of the NFL operates in a 3-4.

This is what you wind up with when you have a small pool to chose from.. a journey man coach.

I would take Schumann without hesitation over Jones.
