Maybe he's gotten better but last time he was a SEC OC it was apparent his offense was far to simple to be effective in SEC play

It appears he was invited to leave Ole Miss because of an offense that often stalled in the red zone.

quote:

On December 15, 2016, it was reported that Longo was hired to be the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Mississippi.[7] Despite averaging over 500 yards of offense per game, his offense was criticized for its inability to score in the red zone and in clutch moments.

2018 Ole Miss was 9th in yardage but 35th in points scored. There was a lot of criticism on his offensive scheme itself. That his variation of the air raid relies heavy on outside vertical routes which become more limited once the field is shortened in the red zone. That's not to say he hasn't changed anything at UNC. I honestly haven't watched much but that's something to look at if we're talking about him bringing his offense back to the SEC.

Honestly the guy I want is another Ole Miss OC. Jeff Lebby, the current OC in Oxford. Hes been at Oklahoma with Kevin Wilson (Ohio State OC), Baylor with Briles, UCF with Heupel and now with Kiffin. Hes just 36 years old.

ETA: After a little more reading, I see that Lebby is Briles son in law and was named as having been complicit in covering up the rape scandal at Baylor. So he's probably not an ideal fit for LSU at the moment.

I do remember him him having weird passing offense at Ole Miss where they didn’t really have routes for the wide receivers or something like that. With him adding a running game, I was curious if he got a little better overall.

This is who I also want along with his OL Coach and RGC Randy Clements.

Ask OM fans about Longo and how he underused AJ brown and DK Metcalf

I would also be curious what Russ Callaway could do as OC. Dont think that would be a popular hire with a restless fan base but he had some big offenses and individual QB success at Samford. But there's a lot of pressure on O to get this one right.

Bring back Mack Brown. He was running the LSU offence as QB coach when I was in school.

That hasn’t changed much at UNC

Go back and look at the play call last year on the two point call that would have tied Clemson.

Having said that, it’s a fun offense to watch.

Go look at his record against equal or better talent. Total dumpster fire.

LSU have an opening at OC???

Also, I am a little wary of OC's that shine under HC's that are long time Offense guru minds. Mack Brown's forte is expressly offense. However, I dont think he is calling plays but I guarantee he knows every week what he wants his offense to do.

Forgive me for not being a UNC expert, but from what I’ve heard, and seen in a very limited capacity, UNC O suffers greatly if their running game gets neutralized. Not sure if it’s a personnel or scheme issue. I do like the pass to set up the run, a la Joe Brady.

its purely speculation at this point. I think there will be some sort of change to the offensive staff this offseason just not sure what positions will be available.

Give Callaway a go. Don't make it too hard.

You found the #1 offense and didn’t even research the OC?
