Looking to the future: what are the odds OSU fires Ryan Day?

As a reminder, if OSU fires Ryan Day, it automatically gives a portal window for the entire roster to transfer.

Assuming Day gets canned for his Michigan incompetence and squandering all his talent, what is the likelihood we can go into their roster and pull out a few big name players? Caleb Downs and Jeremiah Smith would be pretty great right about now

Slim and none

He's 47-5 in 4.5 years (only half season in COVID year)

I don’t think you understand how much people in Columbus are tired of Day. A buddy of mine is well connected up there and there’s not a lot good happening right now, playoff or not. I don’t think it leads to them firing him, but there’ll definitely be some changes after the season.

Firing Ryan Day would be insanely dumb.

Depends on what happens in the playoffs- they have fired a great coach before who just couldn’t beat Michigan. Plus they have spent the most money $$.

It's possible, I get their hate for Michigan, but he still wins alot more than he loses.

Because he plays in the shitty BIG 10 . Now that there is new big money in Oregon in the conference, their days of just having to worry about Michigan are over.

The main accomplishment Day has is that he beats the teams he should always beat consistently, and has been able to dominate Penn State so he always has at least one quality win secured.

Take out Oregon, Michigan, and Penn state from the equation, and what is the average recruiting ranking of the teams he has beaten to amass this amazing winning percentage?

I'd say this season showed us OSU paid all the right positions except qb. Expect the top rated qb that's in the portal to be an OSU lock. They are desperate for QB play. Day is an expensive James Franklin. Both will get you 9 wins, Day just gets more money for players in the process.

Word on the media streets is if he’s 1 and done in CFP he’s out.

Is it dumb? Sure. But they spent one of highest NIL funds of anyone and went out and got Chip Kelly for OC. They put all their eggs in this basket and Day still underperformed. Lincoln Riley 2.0.

Rumor was 20 MM to bring guys back and out of the portal/high school for this roster. Boosters don’t spend that kind of money and are pleased with anything less than a natty. I think if he doesn’t win a title, he’s gone.

Who would they try and hire though?

Replace him with a coordinator? What big name coach is coming to get fired for making the CFP

4 of those 5 losses to Michigan weigh heavy on him though

While I don’t think he will get fired I believe this will start giving coaches shorter leashes from the school. Booster can now publicly say that they will not give to the N.I.L. until changes are made

Harbaugh went 0-5 in his first 5 against Ohio State

I’m not saying Day is the same, but Howard sucks. That’s on him for not finding a better QB
