I think it depends on how he does in the playoffs. I think he’s 100% gone if he doesn’t make it at least to the semi’s. Hell, he may need to win it all to save it.

I don’t think people on this board realize how bad his Michigan problem is. The boosters and money will start to dry up around the program if a coach can’t take care of Michigan.

The questions is...when would they fire him? If they release him soon, all the recruits and transfers will be gone. Who would legitimately replace him that will be an upgrade? Unless, Saban or Urban comes out of retirement or Dan Lanning comes, who would be better?

I agree. If he makes the semis, he won’t be forced out… It’ll be up to him if he can maybe find an NFL job. If he doesn’t make the semis, I think he is forced out.

Just seems to me like it’s maybe beginning to get toxic up there.

But winning cures all. If somehow someway he is able to win it all this whole conversation is obviously moot. And he obviously has the talent on roster to do so, although the QB isn’t great. The talent is there to put together a couple wins and win the title this year. Maybe the silver-lining to the loss to Michigan it will cause/force them to open up the offense for the playoffs.

This question/viewpoint is kind of funny to me. I say that because what has Ryan Day done to deserve this mindset that’s he borderline irreplaceable?

Besides the “he doesn’t lose to bad teams” argument, which is now not true, he’s accomplished next to nothing. His only real accomplishment is 2 Big Ten titles in 6 seasons.

He constantly pisses away insane skilled position talent, coaches scared in Michigan games, his special team units are always a disaster and attribute directly to big losses, has decimated depth on the lines of both sides of the ball, and I could keep going.

And to answer your question, (out of realistic candidates) I’d take Vrabel and Freeman without hesitation over Day. There’s a handful of up and coming HCs who I would take over him as well.
