I agree that he’s likely not getting fired, really because who is realistically out there that is guaranteed to be better? The coaching landscape isn’t exactly packed with slam dunk winners. Even the folks considered the best have had a good deal of bad losses and there are two active coaches that have won a title.
All that said, OSU paid over $20 million this year on NIL deals. If they want him gone, coming up with the money isn’t an issue.

I understand both arguments. Here is one comp: LSU and Miles after 21-0.
From the outside, yes, it's absurd to think Ohio State fans want to get rid of a highly successful coach. And in 2014-15-16, other fanbases thought LSU fans were nuts for wanting to get rid of Miles.
On the inside, many of us knew after 21-0 that he had probably topped out, was stuck in old ways, and it was time to move on.
On the inside in Columbus, they have a perspective we can't fully understand, just as we had with Miles.
I hope they do can him because there aren't any home runs out there (maybe Lanning...Cignetti) and it might cause their program to struggle a year or two. I think they need to win one playoff game for him to stay...maybe two.

Ryan Day is 59-9 as a head coach outside of the COVID year. 66-10 if you really want to count that shitshow.
Firing Ryan Day here for not winning the national championship would be like LSU firing Les Miles after 1/9/2012.
I just don’t see how they could seriously entertain that. LSU didn’t get rid of Les until he fell behind the traditionally second-tier SEC West programs like Arkansas and Ole Miss. I know Ohio State has a lot to offer head coaches, and that carries high expectations… but let’s say he loses round 1 of the playoffs and finishes 10-3 this year, 59-10 outside COVID, 66-11 with it. You’d be firing a guy who has won 85% of his games. That’s insane.

you're correct
but look at OSU's schedule each year. they could have a lawn chair be the HC and they'd win a guaranteed 10 games each year just based on the fact that they overwhelm most teams on talent alone
the minute that the talent gap is reduced, OSU has been very average under Day
oh BTW, at least Les miles won a natty at LSU. ryan day hasn't, and this was the year that they spent $20M on their roster, and had a BUNCH of guys return with the intention of beating UM and winning the natty

LSU used to say that too. For the first nine years of Miles’s tenure, LSU won 10+ games seven times… and the “bad” years were 8-5 and 9-4. In the ten non-COVID years since, we’ve done it only four times. It’s hard to maintain elite recruiting and elite play.

This is legit, and it seems somewhat plausible to me that in this new world of dumping obscene amounts of money into rosters every year that maybe they really should expect 12+ wins a year and a natty in the first 3-4 years. Just seems like there’s obscene downside risk if you blow it up and fire a guy who’s won 85% of his games and then bust on the next hire.
CFB is in a weird spot right now. These cutthroat expectations seem NFL level, but no NFL coach would ever get fired winning that many games, but no NFL coach enjoys this kind of talent advantage either. I’m not sure what the analogue is.

Franklin has had a similar situation as the HC of PSU. He couldn't beat OSU but has a very good record. Oh well, maybe LSU fans can talk about BK and see that he loses at least 3 games during the regular season and still gets to keep his job.

Day has the privilege of playing 3 tough games a year. He is overrated. When has he won anything of substance? What his record vs top 10 teams? He is an average coach that has the benefit of weak schedule and talent advantage 90% of the time

Buckeye fans are dumb. He should be fine but if he stinks it up first round of the playoffs I think there's a 40% chance he's fired.
