He played at OU.
I wonder how fondly he thinks of OU considering he transferred away and didn't finish there...I wonder if "home" is really TCU.

Well what do you know. When you interview a number of candidates sometimes someone you may not have expected will wow you. What a novel concept.

So you're telling me that actually meeting and interviewing candidates who might not be your number 1 going in may change your mind and potentially the order of your candidates? That's crazy talk

Lincoln Riley is the next big thing in coaching. Honestly think he may be better than Herman or anyone else.

Maybe he can prove himself in a few years and (if we are looking for a replacement). Alleva will be gone!!! lol

Not buying it. Some booster is trying to influence the hire

No way UH thinks a successful 33 year old, with no baggage, stays around more than 2 years. It literally destroys their whole hiring criteria they established

And if you're gonna hire a young OC, do you hire someone from Big Game Bobs tree, or from the greatest coach of all time?

I'll hang up and listen

He will keep them rolling but may very well leave as soon as next year if Tech made a move

That said, I don't believe they'll actually use the whole "want to stay here a long time" when the time to make a decision comes along. They'll hire whoever they think is best to help them be good for the next few years so they can put foot forward for P5 inclusion.

That is the most sensible approach. Tulane never recovered post-Bowden after hiring the guy "that wanted to be there."

But Kiffin would stay around more than 2 years??

When it comes to offense Kiffin is not "from the greatest coach of all time." Saban brought Lane in so that Lane could modernize his offense, not to mentor Lane on offense.

Scelfo didn't do badly until then-Tulane President chopped his legs out from under him in 2003 with "The Review", which was a plan to drop Tulane down to DIII to reduce spending. BMDs shot that idea down but the damage was done.

At the risk of a thread hijack, Riley is a current-day case in point on how it's possible to sustain coordinator-level excellence at a strong program, in this case OU.

Not in any way saying Bob Stoops is a CEO type (because he's not), but I am saying he's more or less reloaded at the OC and DC positions over the years (esp. OC and/or QB coach).

In no order: Sumlin-Riley-Pelini-Mike Stoops-Leach-Fat Mangino...and that's just off the top of my head.

Gives me some hope that we can do the same #naiveasshitIknow

Sorry my post went over your head. irregardless of OC ability, do you hire someone from Big Game Bobs tree, or Sabans. Which one has been an eyewitness on how to put together the ultimate winning machine?
