He's not leaving OU until their season is done so that means we would have to wait till almost mid Jan

I just dont see OU just sitting their for 2 more months knowing their top 3 coach is going to walk.

They will back up the truck. OU is very wealthy and they know they need stability as they move into the SEC

If it's stability they want then Orgeron is available

That’s why I’m nervous. It’s way too early for shite like this to leak, even if it is true.

If they don’t make the playoffs, I’m sure he would leave after the Big12CG

Not saying it’s gonna happen, but if it did happen I’m sure he would leave before the bowl game

If they aren’t in playoff contention he could be announced in late November

Obviously a lot of this is contingent on what LSU offers and further contingent on how Riley views OU’s counter (OU might not need to match or best LSU’s offer in Riley’s opinion).

If there is serious smoke and possible fire of Riley to LSU, what makes you think OU just “sits there” for three months and does nothing?

CFP is Dec. 31. OU seems to have trouble getting past that first round…….so, probably not mid-January.

If he knows they aren’t in the playoff, he may bail after final regular season game. Many coaches do it when they get promoted.

Assuming we actually have a MOU-type deal with Riley (I doubt it, but I'm willing to believe for the fun)...

Assuming OU makes the CFP (really not a given; their 3, possibly 4, hardest games of the year are upcoming)...

OU gets bounced in round 1 as usual, and we have our coach well before NSD.

Yes, we miss the early signing period, but that matters less with the free transfer rule.

I don't think the timing matters much at all from our side, if we are confident that the deal is not going to fall through.

I would imagine if we hire a coach that's not in the playoffs then he is in BR shortly after their final regular season game.

We’re trading O for Riley in December should OU advance further

IF he is leaving, i'm sure he knows he can get whatever $$$ out of them he would want within reason....but again, IF he is leaving, money isn't the issue.....the path to championships would likely be the reason as OU keeps getting smacked around in the CFP rankings

And even if they make the natty, we still have our coach well in advance of NSD.

If they don't make the playoffs I doubt he sticks around for a meaningless bowl game.

Lincoln would communicate with OU so that they could go get their guy to replace him. All of this would be behind closed doors. OU isn't going to back the truck up for anybody.

So where is all this confidence that OU would match LSU at 12m per coming from? Are people just assuming Lincoln doesn’t like money and championships?

If he wants to leave it will be about more than money. He knows he will make about the same at either. Terms will come into play and external job factors. Those are what Scott has to sell to him.
