A three loss LSU team that fired its coach is probably the second best team in the SEC.

The 2010 fake field goal that bounced perfectly into josh Jaspers hands off the ground was luck.
Tennessee having 13 players on the field was luck.
Executing blocks and making 5 fourth downs via run is not luck.
Can't give him blame for bad calls (sitting Charles Scott against Kentucky) and not credit for good ones.
Both Miles and Meyer started in 05 and won a national championship with other people's recruits. Neither really rebuilt.

I like Herman for his intelligence. That is what sets Saban apart. He made a 600 on his SAT. SMART IS SEXY.

I think Mullen is a solid coach. What he has done at Moo State(in the mighty SEC West) when you consider what he's had to work with, is pretty remarkable
I think Herman is a lot like Mullen and that isn't a bad thing. Maybe, it's because i respect Mullen a little more than everyone else seems to.

It wasn't much of a rebuild. He won 2 national titles in his first 4 years.
They didn't lack talent. They just needed competent coaching.

Even though it probably was time to move on, you don't compile Les' résumé by being a "bad coach." A lot of people realize this and are thus interested in him.

I felt the same way at first, but I don't think so now.
I think there are a few differences.
1. Sumlin took over almost directly from Art Briles, who really built that program up. (there was a interim coach for a bowl game otherwise directly). Tom Herman got the team after 3 middle of the road years with Tom Levine.
2. Sumlin never values the run game like Herman does. If you look at their 2 best seasons at Houston you see Sumlin has was a 60/40 passer Herman's was a 40/60 Rushing. Even going back to what he was doing at OSU, he gets so much credit for Cardale jones, but Ezekial Elliot was a star at OSU. Sumlin still has no running game out side QB scrambles.
3. Sumlin's best season he was 12-1, and Herman was 13-1. Sumlin played 2 ranked teams and went 1-1 vs them. Herman went 4-0 against ranked teams last year, including beating a top 10 FSU in a NYE game. Sumlin beat Penn State the year they Joe Pa resigned, and they went 1-3 in their last 4 games after that.
