Old School coaches talked about character and integrity. Seems those qualities are in short supply these days among modern coaches.

Joe Patreno was the biggest moralizer in coaching.

A lot of really good coaches or narcissist. I’m sorry to tell you, but Saban was one too. He lied so many times to the media about where he was going. The only reason this is getting like it is because Ole Miss wanted to take a stand. It’s usually the coaches that come out on top. I think Lane did come out on top here, but ole miss went out with a fight. And may win in the long run.

Winning.

I don’t think “character” is pretending the system everyone operates in is something other than what it is.

Football has, since it's very beginning as a proper organized sport, always been about the money. If you want some kinda purist football that's not influenced by money go play 2 hand touch in your back yard with the kids or something.

Not when you've had to literally drag the coach to Baton Rouge. Lane is about Lane. He has been eating this attention up.

Your hero, Nick Saban is defending him, and he probably even personally encouraged him to leave!

Character in college football died with the transfer portal and NIL
Kids leave on a whim these days, roster turns over yearly… kids feeling hurt hits transfer portal
It’s a business now for coaches AND players

Not a single player has a leg to stand on as so many of them transfer every year

As the game has changed over the past 5 years or so, so has the profession. LSU is going to be made out to be the villain here, but the transfer portal/signing day/playoff calendars don’t mesh. A coach can do the admirable thing and offer to stay, but neither his current school nor his new school really wants that to happen.

I’m sure your fans are going to care a lot about “character” if DeBoer turns in a 3 loss season or gets stomped in a playoff game. Let’s be real, the entire sport isn’t character based. It’s laughable that a Bama fan would have a holier than thou view point on this…
