You think Ferentz gives a shite? Its Iowa, he's been there for 25 years as HC and they aren't going to fire him.

Irrelevant. They'll go anywhere from 7-5 to 10-2, get some lineman and/or TEs to the NFL draft, and call Ferentz a genius for getting the most out of nothing.

I mean...it's right in the middle of Nowhere, Iowa, so I guess they shouldn't expect much more than that.

At this point Ferentz is just milking Iowa for every dime he can get. For himself and his son. If his offense has another year like last season, Ferentz is going to get the Les Miles treatment. He had his opportunity to get a real OC. He won't be given another chance.

Quite possible, but I don't think he cares. He will just retire.

Agree with all of this but them firing him. He's been there forever and has a stupidly long contract that guarantees him a lot of money. I've seen over $40 million for a buyout IIRC.

I chuckle when some say "He found a way to win 8 games!" as they ignore the fact the B1GWest was an absolute tire fire this year. I mean fricking Purdue won it.

One more year of divisions and then things get more difficult. With no changes Iowa will slide further into irrelevance.

I've got to say I don't know why in the hell Phil Parker stays there. He's the reason Ferentz has a somewhat passable record. Much like defenses carried Chryst at Wisconsin for years.

Smart. They know what types of players come to Iowa. Changing to a spread, up-tempo system would be the worst thing they could do. Kirk Ferentz has only had 4 losing seasons since he took over in 1999. And the Hawkeyes also sport a winning bowl record under his regime. And they do it all with a run first, sound defense philosophy. You really think anyone wants to mess with that kind of consistency?

Exactly. I think Iowa has seen Nebraska’s fall (and not recover) and are holding on for dear life, regardless of what Ferentz does with staff

I enjoy Iowa being different than most in terms of offensive philosophy, especially in this day and age. But damn, you gotta think they would SOMETHING to improve what was one of the worst offenses in football last year.

Ferentz is getting that bag.

They can keep playing manball all they want. Doesn't change the fact they were #130 out of 131 in offense this past year. The style of play isn't the whole reason for that result. They were inept.

Ferentz Jr. is a clownshow as an OC and QB coach. Apparently he is a good O line coach. He should stick there but then daddy can't pay him as much.

The fact they aren't and haven't been completely irrelevant in modern college football is a testament to Ferentz. Sure the division has been weak but he has been very consistently good in it during his time there.

With how much the coaching has been upgraded in the division I think his time is coming. I think they cut a deal with him after a season where the wheels fall off (probably in the next two years) and he retires.

It's amazing that this level of blatant nepotism 1) allowed to happen in the first place 2) allowed to continue indefinitely at a public university is quite amazing.

Iowa was never a powerhouse like Nebraska though. They seem to favor stability. They kept Hayden Fry as coach for 20 years prior to Ferentz. In the past 43 years they’ve had 2 coaches

No changes for the offense that ranked 130th out of 131 teams in total offense

Ferentz gives zero fricks since his kid is employed

Kirk Ferentz (3), Iowa. The contract: Eight years, $56 million, announced in January. The current buyout: reportedly $6 million for the remaining length of the deal, which would be $42 million after this season. The on-field product: It’s not just that the Hawkeyes are bad (they’re 3–4 and possibly headed for their first losing season in a decade), it’s how incredibly bad they are on the side of the ball coordinated by Brian Ferentz (4), Kirk’s son.

Kirk Ferentz’s long and successful tenure at Iowa has become corrosive of late, almost an abuse of power as he surrounded himself with yes men, friends and family. The Brian Ferentz situation is particularly egregious, a clear case of nepotism that the school has slinked around by having Brian report to athletic director Gary Barta instead of his father. At other schools where the offense is tanking (Rutgers, Indiana, Boise State), in-season assistant coaching changes have been made. At Iowa, the family business lurches on, no matter how bad the results. The fan base deserves better.

The bolded part if pretty much what Paul Chryst was doing as well as he too thought he was untouchable. Fortunately for the fanbase he found out different. MacIntosh saw what was happening and cut the cord.

Iowa fans are likely stuck with Captain Kirk and his spawn for another 4 years at least.

I've got nothing against Iowa but I can't wait to watch this shitshow next year. FSU fans went through it for 5 years with Bobby Bowden and little Jeffrey, it's going to be interesting to watch the same exact thing at another school

Well I'm sure there can't be much competition up there for something to do on a Saturday. Watch Iowa play or watch corn grow? People will still show up, Iowa will still win a few games. They'll never win a natty whether or not staff changes were made, so might as well stay with the status quo.
