I'm of the opinion that Stoops leaves UK at the end of this season

Not sure where he will land, or what will be available, but my gut tells me he's going to get out while he can.

This season could end anywhere from 6-6 to 8-4. Levis will be gone. OC will be fired. Unless we strike gold in the transfer portal, will have an untested QB starting.

Just seems like the right time to take another job. He's done great here, but I think we are looking to fall back to the middle of the pack, and with Texas and Oklahoma joining soon, it's just going to get harder.

Am I wrong? Would it take the Iowa job opening? Penn State?

I really don't see him going to a "lesser or equal" job, but I also think the clock it ticking on the bloom on his rose.

Now, generally, other than QB, we have some really good offensive weapons, and normally our defense has been decent, but without a solid QB, you can't win in the SEC.

Thoughts?

Do you want him gone?

No. As I said, I just think he might think it's time to move. If UK slides back to the middle of the pack, no one will want him.

He's got a great gig here, top 15 pay the last I checked, and no one looking over his shoulder, but at some point it becomes about something other than money. Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm mentioned this on the rant, and other UK fans think I'm nuts.

Maybe he will stay loyal and stick it out.

seems like an OL coach might be more important than firing the OC right now.

He has, he's 2nd behind Saban on tenure in the SEC, and he's had inquiries in the past. We'll see.

My only real issue with him, is from what I have heard, he micromanages the offense, and he's not that an offensive coach, and at least this year, it seems our offense is struggling big time.

Doesn't seem like the Penn State job would open up. I mean Iowa? Meh.

I agree he’s in a good position to move up, but fortunately for Kentucky, there doesn’t seem to be any big time openings this year. Auburn is the biggest so I guess that could happen but he’d be moving to a much tougher job imo. Texas a&m isn’t firing jimbo this year. I don’t see any real options for him to move to a better job. Compare to last year with LSU, Notre dame,Florida, ou, usc all looking for coaches.

Iowa seems like the fit considering his ties - although I'm not sure if Iowa fans want to see a different style of offense at this stage.

At what point has UK ever not been middle of the pack?

Exactly. And I’m willing to admit that I hate when LSU plays Kentucky, but until a team wins their own division, they are mid-tier.

This always gets said, yet they've been mostly mediocre for over 40 years, no matter who the head coach is.

I don't think Stoops will leave UK this year, but he should listen to Nebraska if they call.

This isn't the rant. UK has finished 2nd in the East 3 of the last 5 years, and our game at Georgia in 2019 was to decide the east title. I mean, that's pretty good for Kentucky if we are being honest.

Middle of the pack would be 4th or 5th consistently to me an somewhere about 8-10 in overall conference.

My understanding is getting him out of Lexington is going to be a real challenge. You've got Ferentz, I think.

Mark Stoops sends message to Kentucky fans that could be panicking

quote:

“I understand not being happy and the frustration, that’s fans, that’s good fans,” Stoops said. “There’s some passionate fan bases, we just saw one too and they haven’t always been happy, ours hasn’t always been happy. There’s going to be good and there’s going to be bad… We’re all in this together, we accept that and we own it but we still need them.

“Anyone that’s going to jump off that quick… Frustration, yes. But come back and cheer again. You can throw darts at me after the next one but just keep on being fans. I appreciate it, they’ve been awesome this year.”
