I’m a big guy schadenfreude guy in general but LSU fans make it so much fun with how smug they are. We riding, our guys locked up, big dick Woodward went whale hunting, etc.

It was pretty much exactly like watching the political talk board’s confidence that the “kraken” would be released and the election overturned.

20 years is way too long. Hell, a lot has changed in the past 10 years (remember 2011 LSU-Bama? you see Bama replicating that any time soon thereafter?)

I don't think it HAS to be an offensive guru, but they're getting into the playoffs at pretty good rates. The defensive side is overly-represented by Saban, who is offense-first these days and relies on offense to win.

Look who makes the playoffs the most:

Bama? offense-driven
OSU? offense-driven
OU? offense-driven

Now I'm pro-Aranda, b/c he's smart enough to understand how valuable offense is (like Saban and unlike Kirby), but after Aranda it should be an offensive guru

Perfect response.

Penrod, you’re a good poster, so I’m surprised you’d dismiss Kiffin so quickly (not to mention Meyer ).

What evidence is there that Kiffin isn’t a great organizer and leader?

I obviously don’t think his offensive innovation is his only asset as a coach, but it’s definitely a big one.

But the guy was extremely successful under Saban, who demands those qualities from his coach, and also resurrected two programs on his own at FAU and OM.

There’s no reason to believe he isn’t capable of reaching high levels of success in Baton Rouge imo.

The problem with LSU is that they want to believe in their heroes. Woodward was the latest hero (after replacing Oregeron as the hero who replaced Miles as the hero. Everyone always hated Alleva and F King).

Riley to LSU was based in a lot more reality than that.

Napier is still willing to drag his dick through broken glass to coach at LSU so we have that in our back pocket I suppose. Would sting if SW's ego didn't allow him to hire Aranda

LSU (a top 3 job) deserves better than a “good” candidate, and “big game hunter” Woodward was supposed to make sure of that.

Your dumbass fan base will scare the athletic department away from Napier because they think they’re above us and our coach

Just don't understand the
Woodward hype.

This is the guy that overpaid an overated coach in Jimbo Fisher which looks worse and worse with each passing day.

Overpaying Jimbo Fisher and getting him to A&M is not some feather in your cap. It's a mistake unless you like 4 loss seasons.

I mean, SW is definitely overrated and not some the offense genius. It doesn’t take much skill to be given a blank check and get a big name. People act like he does the impossible.

Yes, he got Petersen to UW, but that had been rumored and was an easy fit from years before. He got a significantly declining Jimbo from FSU with a massive overpay for what has turned into 0 10 win seasons in 4 years at A&M?

Yes he got two good coaches in WBB and Baseball again with ridiculous salary offers. At some point, he needs results. Of the head coaches he’s hired, they have 1 conference championship in the major 4 sports amongst all of them since his time at Washington.

He is not some amazing AD that was great at finding diamonds in the rough. He is just a guy that decided to try and outbid everyone and when he falls flat, doesn’t get called on it.

Yeah this is literally the only hire that matters and Woodward appears to have completely fricked this up.

His entire rep was that he was going to come in and do exactly what people on here thought he'd do.

WELLLLLL

He went after Jimbo, which was insane, and we got lucky that didn't work out

He was able to keep Tate at bay with Tate's Tucker obsession

But then he read his own press clippings and went too bold with a guy he had no relationship with (like Jimbo) because he thinks of himself too great to lower himself to a former DC who "only has 2 years of experience" because he's the "big game hunter".

Great comparison.

People keep repeating each other on the board, and it becomes self-reinforcing.

Where did it start from? Some random poster displaying some “insider” knowledge.

It doesn’t offend me that Napier wants the LSU job. He’d be an idiot to not want it. He already had relationships with all the coaches in the state and the athletic dept has enough money to give him the best staff and shadow staff that he could dream of. I think Napier and Aranda should be the top 2 candidates for LSU right now
