If it is Lanning, Oregon has to be wondering how they can keep a coach.

That would be three consecutive coaches lost to other P5 programs.
That’s unfathomable for a top 10-ish program, which I believe Oregon currently is.

They’ll always be a tier 2 school. Maybe hire a alum

Yeah, and they're headed to the Big. They'll likely lose lots of recruits to the portal now. Freaking rough

I just don't think Lanning would have signed a contract with a $20 million buyout if he thought he might leave at any point in the future. We all knew Saban was going to retire within a few years and certainly within the life of his Oregon contract.

I think they're confident enough in their program that they aren't too worried about finding the next guy.
Bellotti, Kelly, Helfrich, and Cristobal were all internal hires, and all had success after they took over. Taggart was the only established HC they've hired in the last 50 years.

I’m more confident Oregon can make a better hire than Bama if it comes to it.

With their NIL?

Well one of those was promised a bill of goods to go back and be head coach at his P5 Alma Mater so that one really shouldn’t count against the Ducks. Almost any school would have a hard time combatting that.

Money should not ever be a concern for Oregon with NIKE in their back pocket

They've had horrible luck. Once in a blue moon (FSU at the time) dream jobs keep opening up. Willie Taggart took over for Jimbo, nobody thought Jimbo would leave. Worked out for Oregon, they upgraded with Mario. He leaves for Miami because he played there. They get Lanning, who probably never leaves except for Alabama or Georgia. Bama just happens to open up.

Maybe Phil Knight gets pissed off enough that he offers Lanning Nike money. Paul,Jr can't match Phil's pockets.

Every coach that leaves fails, and then they win with the next coach . Oregon has proven to let a coach leave if they flirt isn’t a bad idea if your program is elite

I think it was more to do with it being easier to win in the Pac 12 than anywhere else.

Not throwing some stupid contract at Taggert or Mario was a good move. Oregon is sharp money. This isn't Texas A&M.

Mostly because he doesn't care anymore and the rule changes eliminated where he was able to see an inefficiency in the game and take advantage.
He's in full check collecting mode. UCLA is also completely screwed on the NIL side. They have no chance of success no matter who is coaching.

Oregon is LSU without the titles. Any coach can be successful there.
