I certainly smell the Stoops chatter in the air. And I obviously don’t like it.

Don’t hate me, I just don’t like that at all. And I’m worried it’s more than chatter.

That’s not true, that was only the case for a few years starting in 2012 after A&M/Mizzo/Neb/Colo left

We on the rant only want to hire a millennial bc they are young hungry and work hard. Quite different from our opinions when we post on the OT and poliboard bitching about the work ethic of millennials.

Try to keep up.

2017 Sugar bowl Champ
2016 Big 12 Coach of the Year
2016 Big 12 conference champ
2015 Big 12 Coach of the Year
2015 Big 12 conference champ
2014 Sugar bowl Champ
2012 Big 12 conference champ
2011 Fiesta Bowl champs
2010 Big 12 conference champ

And I haven't even got to the 2000s yet. Plus, he handed Lincoln Riley a perennial playoff team. Riley didn't build that.

Now list the HC achievements over the last decade for Franklin, Tucker, Napier, Kiffin, Aranda, etc.

Big Game, balls to the wall Bob Stoops is 61
There’s only a 10 year difference in ages between him & the top coaches out there.
Dabo’s 51
Franklin’s 50
If Coach O would have kept the train rolling you’d be saying he’s the youngest 60 y.o.in the game.

Excellent resume. Superb. No doubt about it. It’s practically impossible to argue against his overall resume, which is legendary.

Except…Why didn’t he win a title with those clearly and consistently tremendous teams? And you should list it back during the 2000’s… because it’s the same story.

Maybe we’re okay with a 10-2 sugar bowl team every year. It’s really good. And that’s not even getting into the league comparison and conversation that he obviously wouldn’t do the equivalent in the SEC as he did in the Big12, of course he would do worse, so we’re probably looking at a consistent 8-9-10 win CapitalOne bowl team with the occasional NY6 game sprinkled in. I’d like a higher ceiling personally and to add another national title or 2.

It’s a strange conversation about Stoops, because on paper yeah his resume is better than anyone out there but Saban. That doesn’t make him the right hire for LSU in 2021, though, imo.

In the 2000’s, heck yeah sign me up for 9-10+ wins seasons, but I’d like to think our ultimate goal bar has been raised over the last 20 years.

if Stoops is the hire in 2021, we are in trouble. Big trouble.

We don’t know about any candidates. Has Woodward announced candidates? No? It’s just fans and media throwing out names.

You’re concerning me more about a potential
stoops hire, because I sense you are hearing it as well and playing coy

I’m gonna try to talk myself into it in the coming days/weeks because at the end of the day I’m an LSU fan, I trust Woodward, and I’m gonna root for whoever the hire is. But man I do not want Bob Stoops.

I’ll be able to get behind it when the dust settles, but at this point in time I have major concerns about what we’re doing if he’s the choice. It’s the safe/stable/known route with a known and established ceiling, and I’d personally prefer something with the potential to put us back on top…And IMO that isn’t Bob Stoops.

hes who i wanted to try and hire over Ed. It gets stale at one place after so long. Not sure if he wanted to just stop coaching or stop coaching at OU

But okay, would you rather lose in the playoffs or seccg or be .500?

Because he would have us in the hunt more often than not and we have more top level instate recruits.

IDK if i would go that direction now.

If you liked Riley, then you should love Stoops, Stoops built the program that Riley has been riding to fame.

Saying Riley is OK and Stoops is trouble, is like saying Napier is OK, but Saban is trouble.

Yes, I believe the best days of coaching for Bob Stoops are behind him.

If a Stoops must be hired, I would rather it be Mark.

But I would rather neither one get the job. I am still hoping for Luke Fickell.

Whoever it is, should be an improvement over Ed O. And I do think Woodward will do a much better job than Alleva did in filling this very important position.

You are correct…They absolutely are.

This is common sense (and actually quite normal/natural/logical). Which is why it’s surprising to me some are suggesting that it’ll be equal or better than it was back then in his prime, which is what would be required and expected at LSU. Of course it won’t be equal or better than it was in his prime, what rational person would think it would be equal or better in a tougher conference, at an older age, in a new era of NIL CFB. I doubt it will be a dumpster fire, which is good I guess, but it certainly won’t result in any national titles…we know that won’t happen under Stoops, hell he couldn’t win national titles in his prime with an easier path and less national competition.

Do you people even watch college football?

Everybody wants Riley, and all i hear is that LSU is a better gig than OU because of in state talent to compete. Why does that not apply to Bob as well? Stoops is much more accomplished than Riley and thats not a knock on Riley.

your point is well taken as it relates to Riley, and I agree.

As to Stoops, yeah I watched him for 15+ years have an easy path to a title with the best team a lot of the time, and fail to win one every single time except for in his second year 21 years ago. He also had an easier conference to navigate back then (than the SEC currently is) and a lot of his tenure was prior to the SEC basically taking over CFB (less national competition back then). And for the last 5 years, I’ve watched a ton of CFB and haven’t seen Stoops on the sideline except as a spectator.

Look, I’ll talk myself into it and get behind it eventually. We could certainly do a lot worse than Bob Stoops for sure. He’d stabilize the program and most likely get us back to consistent 9-10 win teams. And would keep us modern and moving on offense. It just seems like the safe hire. I’d rather we go younger, even if it comes with more risk.

Stoops to LSU makes a lot of sense I guess. And I need to get on board, and I will.

We would prefer to win big games at LSU, though. Do we really want a coach whose nickname is “Big game Bob” ? … And that was while he was still in his prime and you only had to win 1 playoff game to win it all and before the Big12 had a conference championship game.

Bob actually earned that nickname early in his career when he was winning the big games. In 1999, hew went 7-5 but beat the #13 Aggies (51-6) who were defending Big 12 champs. In 2000, he beat 5 teams ranked in the top 11. In 2001, he went 7-1 against top 15 teams.

When you have a nickname like Big Game Bob, it will be used negatively anytime you lose.

I'm not advocating for or against him, just pointing out that the nickname was earned positively and later became a scoff.
