Have you ever googled Ole Miss National Championships?

This may get some downvotes, but I think he's just the placeholder until Saban retires or a better coach becomes available.
It shouldn't get downvotes: it's almost exactly what's happened.
LSU competed with Florida as the best program in the SEC before Saban came to Alabama. LSU will essentially be the best program in the SEC once Saban and his ridiculous run ends.

You did a lot of work on this but you also are forgetting something...how many of those coaches started off in a power 5 conference and/or one like the sec west? The SEC west wasn't the beast it is now then but it was still fairly strong.

Maybe you are oversimplifying it. Depth of analysis is a valuable commodity.
Your stats show coaches do improve. In fact 1/5 of the coaches you list had losing records in the first 3 years and went on to win a national title. That shows great improvement.

I want the OP to know that I really appreciate this thread. I know how much work goes into compiling data like this for something as meaningless and as fickle as a sports forum.

You had me at "data." Still, I am going to hope for the best while aware it is unlikely to occur.

Miles was hired by LSU at a pivotal time (after Saban) and had a record of 28-21 as a headcoac
Before Miles got to OSU they 1 winning season in 14 years. Miles had 3 winning seasons and had them winning 9 games.
He also brought in multiple top 25 classes during a time where Oklahoma State was getting classes in the 80's and 90's.
Educate yourself.

Hell no. Moving on this quick will give Alleva the green light to go cheap again.

Has anyone mentioned that McCarthy needed a 5th down against Missouri to have a chance to win that NC? I hope O has that much luck on his side.

only 1 NC winning coach had a worse 3 year start than O...Bill McCartney at Colorado.
And the next closest above O, won his only NC with a once in a lifetime QB. Which LSU doesn't currently have, and just lost a commitment from a pretty good one, so . . . .

How bout coaches who originally sucked that got their team ranked in the top 4 after the final week/ccg week? If we can get into that mix, all bets are off.

A question Sport Tiger:
How many of the guys on that list went from being a head coach to being a journeyman DL coach, and then showed great improvement in their 2nd job having never even been a coordinator?
I think you might be using faulty statistics to try and make you point.

Or as much as CLM did being the only 2 loss BCSNCG winner...but I think we can all agree they both were very lucky to get the HC job at LSU so maybe that is a good omen for Orgeron

You don't think Miles was lucky to get hired after Saban?
Posted on 11/30/16 at 11:16 pm to Topwater Trout
Oh absolutely, but les at least had a decent resume and had just won big12 COY award.
My point is, I think you secretly know O had zero qualifications for this job and you are 'hopeful' that it will work out. It saddens me that that is okay with you, vs hiring a coach with a much better win %
