I heard Napier has turned down three SEC head coaching jobs so he is waiting for some particular school. He could be waiting for the LSU head coaching job now or wait for Saban to retire. Both make sense.

My sauces at UT simply told me that they were going hard for Saban and that he listened. Finebaum has corroborated it. Please don't lump me with supa

bro...it would not be the coaching changes board without us messing with you on your Saban to UT post.

and yes i know in the end you were right, still going to pick on you so long as this board is active and im not banned.

which is why the "leaks" to drum up interest in Napier is a joke

any of these ADs would just call up Sexton and be hey Jimmy WTF?

Agents are used car salesman. The more interest they can generate, the more they can drive up the asking price.

"Hey Jimmy I hear Billy has interest from Bama. Is this true?"

Jimmy: "Now you know I can't discuss who is or isn't interested in my client"

Sure he did.

And 3 years from now, General Motors is gonna hire a new CEO, but I'm gonna go on record now as turning them down, although they weren't going to ask me anyway.

that is what I said, but Napier is only 42 whereas Saban is about to be 70

Saban was forced to not coach for a week last year and he absolutely hated it. He's coaching until he physically can't anymore, and much to our dismay that means we have another decade of him at the minimum because he's very healthy. There is no way that Alabama is having serious "head coach in waiting" talks. When Saban retires, they'll hire some surprisingly disappointing name and run him out of town 2 years later because he goes 10-2 and 11-1 but loses the first round of the playoffs.

Keep in mind that in most other professions that make a lot less money Saban would have been retired for years by now.

Let's see ... 9m/yr for 6 seasons before Saban leaves is 54m. Minus the 2m/yr Bama would pay me for those 6 seasons, that's 12m. I'm 42m better off taking LSU now. Hmmmmm......

I get that Bama is the premier job, or def top 3, in the country, but I seriously wonder who is going to want to follow Saban at Bama?

That will be the toughest act to follow in probably the history of the game. I could see a HCIW arrangement easing that for a few years, but not 7.

And sorry, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. If Napier is offered LSU HC, he’ll sprint down I-10.

Listened to Saban speak at the Texas coaches clinic. He said he will coach as long as he can, b/c he has no idea what he would do if he retired.

Yeah generally-speaking Bama and LSU jobs are fairly equivalent.

But post-Saban Bama < LSU

That next coach is inevitably destined to be ran out of town with the swiftness. They’ll probably have to get an older experienced coach wanting one final payday regardless if the program dips a little and he gets fired

Im not sure if Napier takes that deal or not. But man, I hope he consults Tigerdroppings first before he makes an important move like that. ??

Is OP really saying Napier wants to sit in the OC spot for 5-6 years over given the chance to be a head coach in the SEC?

I’ve said it before….whether Napier is an LSU candidate or not this will be the last chance we have to hire him so if Scott likes him I suspect he’ll get a long look.

Even Saban himself has said that if someone in the SEC doesn’t hire Napier he’ll be beating us in a short period of time.

This is definitely going to up the value for Napier

Maybe thats the point. Im going with these rumors are all conspiracy of the Napier goon squad to get him more money in an offer from LSU

no, i didnt say that at all

I think it is stupid to believe that Saban would coach until 2028, but if he does then he would have to have an extension put in for recruiting purposes

I think a lot of you are missing the actual story here, if this rumor is true then Napier would be going there knowing exactly when Saban is going to retire because Saban would have told him. Thus Saban would be guaranteed he would be absolutely in control of his own succession plan.

If they go the HCIW route then Saban would decide when he would retire, how he would retire, who would replace him and how much power he would have after he retired.

no way anyone lives up to poor ol Saban. The only positive to taking over for Saban is the team will be full of talent. I'd want to be the coach after the coach of Saban...
