LSU defensive line coach Ed Orgeron is “very interested” in the head coaching opening at Syracuse, he told Syracuse.com on Monday.

“I have a lot of respect for Syracuse,” Orgeron told the website for a story published Monday. “Great private school, great education, great tradition. So, obviously, my interest would be very high. I’d be highly interested in getting that job. I think it would be a wonderful opportunity to go back there.”

well that wouldn't have helped because in his 12th year as our head coach les would have made the same mistake that Ed O made 10 years ago which was not letting his oc coach the system he knows and interfering with the calls.

fwiw outside of cam, BDP and grimes our staff was pretty outstanding. Grimes the jury is out on but cam and BDP were both horrible at their jobs.

pretty much as we suspected the problems at LSU started with Les and then a few of his lackeys were holding us back.

I don't think anyone can argue that outside of Cam our staff was top of the league.

did he get an interview though, plus that was last year with all the stuff going on. I would doubt that any of our coaches suspected Miles could last this year. Aranda came in despite knowing Les was all but gone.

Ed O stated he had a plan ready to go. He saw the writing on the wall, they fire Les just like USC did with Kiffin and its my chance.

which leads to the point that LSU is a top job if we can still bring in coaches despite them knowing les is likely to be fired. we all should have known this in the spring when cam was retained that there was no way Les survived.

oh i agree we wont agree on it. which is fine

I get why people are gun shy on O. I have been impressed by his changes so I wouldn't hate the O train.

I still stand by backing up the bank trucks to jimbo or herman but I don't think its realistic to think we lock them up for sure at this point.

And dont get me wrong, i dont hate coach O, i really like him and would be really happy if we could somehow keep him. I just really dont trust him to be the head guy long term. That being said i think he has done a great job as interim head coach for sure.

i do really like Fleck but i understand why people say he needs more experience. He is right there with Herman and Fisher for me, they are my top three of "reasonable" candidates. If Chip Kelly is available, which i doubt, he is my number 1

No, he has been an INTERIM Head Coach...he is a substitute teacher.

This, "I think he's improved" stuff is such wishful thinking. LSU has played no one since Miles was fired. USC played only three good opponents while Orgeron was interim coach - and they lost two of those three games.

The wheels do not completely fall off a car with a flat immediately. It takes three years to go from a down Cutcliffe year to 0-8 in the SEC.

Also, this stuff about we're going to lock down Louisiana in recruiting? Until Saban retires it has been as good as it can get. We keep more of the top in state talent than pretty much any other major program with talent worth discussing. Everyone on staff (except Chavis) was really working it on the recruiting trail of late.

The only way to elevate LSU's recruiting to any better of a level would be either: 1) easier competition, because Saban retires and the Texas schools are weak or 2) improved coaching at LSU resulting in more consistent success than we've had over the last three years.

There comes a point (certainly when you are already in the top ten of recruiting rankings regularly) when recruiting does not further elevate your team's success, only success will further elevate your recruiting.

Ties to the area can matter. did anyone on the rant think that Trent Johnson was a bad hire for LSU basketball? no, he was a coach of the year in two different conferences. He then ventures into the sec and it is a disaster.

Trent Johnson has never been a good recruiter anywhere he has been. He lucked into the Lopez twins and that's it. it also didn't help that he stupidly came in and blew off the former players who also happen to run the local AAU circuit.

but do you disagree with any move he has made as a long term good move?

Not being as hard headed and stuck in the 70's/80's as Les is not a good enough reason to give O the job. Most coaches would have done the same.

So replacing your offensive and defensive coordinator every 2 years or so sounds like a sustainable program to you? We would be dog shite

What? Who says we'd have to replace them every two years? You probably think Miles was the reason we got all those great defensive coordinators. It wasn't, it's because we offered them more money. Holy sh*t some of you are dumb.

Lsu best option is jimbo then O with lane and Aranda as coordinators. Faak everyone else imo. If u wander Why it's because keeping Aranda Craig and Raymond are critical and both the above choices would. They are the best fits. It wouldn't be a huge mistake to bring someone in that's not familiar with Lsu and lost the current staff. Mark my words were Faaked if one of the above doesn't get in. We will be set back for years

Herman/Jimbo then O if he can win out.

A lot of variables but you get a homerun like Herman and Jimbo if you can. If not, if O can get the job done down the stretch then anyone else who isn't top tier that you'd bring in would seem like a gamble either way. This coaching search outside of Jimbo or Herman is a crap shoot.

Herman had been my number 1 choice, by a wide margin, but he is nowhere near a home run.

in the past month he's lost to Navy and SMU, needed a goal line stand to beat Tulsa, and an 18 point comeback to beat UCF, who was 0-12 last year.

the talent he has is AT LEAST equal to those 4 teams, if he was a "home run" HC he'd be winning those games with little trouble.

1 game is an anomaly. 4 in a row is a massive red flag.

Everyone knew those defenses were Sabans. And as you can tell with UGA, schools made the right decision in not hiring him.

He's a first year coach. There will be a transition period. If we bring in a new coach (outside maybe Jimbo) we will likely take time to get on track. GA is also starting a freshman QB and has a horrid offense. I didn't expect it to be this bad though.

people need to be clear about something; this was not the USC team that was preseason #1. the team Orgeron took over started the season ranked 24th

in week 2 they lost, at home, to unranked Washington State, who would finish 6-7.

in week 4 they barely beat unranked Utah State, at home, 17-14.

in week 5 they lost to unranked Arizona State, 61-42, and Kiffin was fired on the tarmac at LAX at 3AM.

thats what Orgeron took over.

it was not a good team.

in his first game he beat Arizona, in Rich Rods second season, who would finish 8-5.

his second game was at Notre Dame, in Kellys 4th year, and they lost 14-10.

he won the next three but was still unranked when they beat #5 Stanford, who won the Pac that year

he lost to #22 UCLA two weeks later, then beat #20 Fresno State 45-20.

USC played 4 good teams, not 3, and because of the 4-3 start they were the lower ranked team in all 4. still, Orgeron went 2-2.

No he didn't, that was Helton. O had already quit because USC didn't give him the job after UCLA blew them out by 21

you cant quit a job that someone doesnt give you.

stop trying to phrase everything to put Orgeron in the worst possible light

USC played Fresno State on December 23 without Orgeron. Orgeron quit when he was not hired as the new head coach.

Did Not Coach Bowl Game - USC beats good team without him

The fact that they beat Fresno State pretty handily without him - and lost two of their three games against good teams with him weakens the case that he elevated the program at all. It actually calls into question whether they were better without him.

are you serious with this shite?

so you dismiss LSU beating Ole Miss worse than anyone has all year yet the way Helton beat Fresno State was eye-opening?

just admit that your mind is already 100 percent made up about Orgeron and nothing he ever does will be good enough, that youre gonna be one of those people for as long as hes here.
