Harsh Reality - Elite coaches don't want the LSU job

Look at the past coaching searches for LSU. We've never gotten one of top targets. We always have to settle for someone further down the pecking order. We've gotten lucky the past two times in that Saban and Miles both panned out to be good hires. The previous ones, not so much. Reality is, LSU's head coaching job is not a top 5 or top 10 job in the country or else we would be able to get some genuine interest from some of the top coaching candidates. LSU has all the resources to be a sustained successful program, but we are not a draw for the top coaches. It sucks, but history says that's the way it is. If it is Coach O, then hopefully he can help sustain some level of success here, but we will never compete at the level we want until we find a way to bring in an elite coach, plain and simple.

Alleva has talked to like 4 people in this entire coaching search.

All of the other 306,733 threads on this topic haven't quite hit the nail on the head, but this one...this one...is the one that needed to be made. Thank you OP.

We could have had Herman or Fuente last year. The timing of Texas is what screwed us, assuming we don't land Herman anyway.

We had Spurrier years ago and Jimbo last year. LSU can't get out of its own way.

Can we ban morons like this? Or at least arrange for other posters to kick them in the skull?

They don't want this job as long as the GOAT midget is still in Tuscaloosa.

Pussies, the whole lot if them.

What's so damn special about coaches and QBs that we can't ever attract good ones?

very seldom does a top team get a successful proven HC from another top college team. LOOK IT UP.

bama got Saban from the NFL; Michigan got the coach from San Francisco.

to single out LSU is either an anti LSU remark or it reveals no knowledge of past coaching searches from the entire college football world.

I'm watching the Texas V TCU game, and the color announcer (Tillman?) and Bruce are both indicating that Herman to LSU is a verrrry real possibility.

*ETA -- Tillman mentioned that being a coach at a program where people outside of the program have a say is "terrifying."

Probably a troll, but it worked. Are you high dude? The resources, the talent, the tradition, the atmosphere, I mean come on dude. Saban and miles were both power 5 coaches prior to LSU. How could any coach look at LSU and not think "I could win a national title here" or "this job could propel me to the NFL?"

Elite coaches don't leave big time programs often. When was the last time it happened?

Nope.

According to Jimbo's brother, there was never a chance of Jimbo coming to LSU last year.

No offense, but until this is done, no one knows this. This isn't the same program as it was the last time LSU searched for a head coach.

It's got nothing to do with elite coaches not wanting to come here. It's ALL about timing. Look at every good hire and the timing was fortunate to match up with the opening. Ohio state even used an interim for a full year to get the timing right with Urbs.

Unfortunate that Texas has an opening the same year as us
