Nobody really has any clue what is happening, all the dooms day scenarios on here are ridiculous. The media doesn't really know what's going on. We will not know until it is officially announced. Chill the frick out

The "tradition"? Til Saban, LSU was a shite show. Texas is a better job traditionally. They have their own network FFS lol. They can pay more for coaches. Hell, I read earlier that Gruden is in the mix for the UT job.

I am as diehard as you get, but people need to pump their breaks.

The resources, the talent, the tradition, the atmosphere, I mean come on dude. Saban and miles were both power 5 coaches prior to LSU. How could any coach look at LSU and not think "I could win a national title here" or "this job could propel me to the NFL?"

I agree with you. I'm just trying to figure out how we always seem to miss on the top targets on each coaching search. I understand about the timing thing (Saban to Bama, Meyer to tOSU). I just don't understand why there isn't more interest in the job.

We've gotten lucky the past two times in that Saban and Miles both panned out to be good hires

ut we will never compete at the level we want until we find a way to bring in an elite coach, plain and simple.
Which is it?

We performed at high levels with Miles & Saban, so...

What's so damn special about coaches and QBs that we can't ever attract good ones?

1. Nick Saban ring a bell?

2. What makes you think Herman and/or Jimbo aren't interested? Virtually every report the past couple of days say they are.

According to Jimbo's brother, there was never a chance of Jimbo coming to LSU last year.

Jimbo's brother has a bit of a motive to say that, don't you think?

I'm watching the Texas V TCU game, and the color announcer (Tillman?) and Bruce are both indicating that Herman to LSU is a verrrry real possibility.
He also said Herman would be the coach at Texas net year.

The media is screaming for Texas to be good again, and trying to keep us in mediOcrity.

This isn't the same program as it was the last time LSU searched for a head coach.
Last time it was a couple of seasons of success, and this time it's been 12 years of success/consistency.

How many elite coaches are real possibilities for any program? Elite coaches already tend to be at elite programs and don't tend to leave for another elite school. Alabama lucked out because Saban realized he wasn't an NFL coach and they happened to have a vacancy. Meyer left Florida and then Tressel's tenure imploded at Ohio State. It is rare for an elite coach to leave an elite program directly for another elite program. There are so many variables including timing and a limited number of top coaches actually available. It really isn't a negative about LSU as such. Florida, Georgia, etc., even Alabama, haven't hired an elite coach directly from another elite school. You could add Michigan, Ohio State, USC, Miami, Nebraska, and Texas to that list.

And it is also fairly rare for elite programs to make the right hire the first time after a very successful predecessor. LSU's hire of Miles was actually unusual for the amount of success he had following an elite coach.

Well he is right.

If the reason these coaches won't come is because of the people doing the hire than it isn't an elite job

All jobs have pros and cons. Alleva being the con here

What the frick are you all talking about? We had the GOAT. He wasn't a top coach at the time but when he left he was. You rarely see coaches that made it big at a school leave to another high demand program. Those guys create dynasties in a specific program. Saban helped bring this program to the top. Before that we were just average. There were a few coaches considered when Miles was hired. We passed on Fisher back then, Petrino. I don't remember exactly when but didn't we piss Spurrier off by snubbing him for the job? Top coaches don't leave top jobs when things are going well.
