What’s making it not a thing for much longer. It’s been a thing for years.

maybe you havent been keeping up on current events but ESPN isn't doing to hot these days and MNF is a major expense:

The ESPNFL conglomerate is hemorrhaging from 2 serious wounds: the anthem protests and the injection of the SJW agenda into sports coverage.
It may be that Gruden never intended to leave his cushy MNF job, but the uncertainty surrounding that gravy train might be enough to push him back into coaching.

It's 98% cord cutting bro

Mike Florio and former Gruden player Chris Simms spent the last 5 minutes of PFT Live this morning talking about how he'd never go to college but maybe back to the NFL. They said there's no way he could put up with the 20 hour rule. Also talked about him maybe being a scumbag.

There are multiple factors in play, no doubt...some people may have been on the fence about cutting the cord and ESPN was the only thing keeping them from doing it...now with the recent politicization...makes it easier to cut.
Point is, the NFL's brand has taken a massive hit in the past year, and that may indirectly push Gruden out of MNF and back into coaching.

Vols obsession with Gruden is baffling
Do you see the irony in LSU fans continually coming here and saying this a year after you guys sucked off Tom Hermann while everyone with a brain knew that Texas was his dream job and Texas wanted him as well, who could turn down LSU though, right?

Why would he say never if he get the Deuce as his guaranteed head coach in waiting?
Posted on 11/15/17 at 9:09 am to Vols&Shaft83
He’s an overrated coach who hasn’t coached a game in a decade.
This will go about as well as the Saints hiring Ditka.

Where’s irony at? LSU wanted the hot new name or the established national championship coach last year and we got about the least sexy pick out there. Vols keep bringing up Gruden, who has neither. He won a SB 15 years ago. I’m not saying this bc I’m scared of Gruden being in the SEC, I’m simply wondering why y’all wouldn’t rather someone better with a more established college record.

makes no sense. Saban coached at LSU and sold out and went coach our rivals after a failed stint in the NFL.

I think he definitely knows MNF is on unstable ground at ESPN. You would think he could EASILY get an analyst job at another network if he wanted to remain in TV.
If he wants to get back into coaching, Tennessee isn't the worst place to do it. However, there is a HUGE difference in coaching the college game vs. the pro game. In the pros job stability is ALWAYS a question. But, all you do is coach. In college it's a year round grind where to you wear three hats: HC, recruiter, promoter/salesman. Does Gruden want to undertake that lifestyle?
Saban came back to the college game. But it was only two years after he left. Harbaugh did the same (roughly 4 years after going to the NFL). Gruden has not only been out of coaching for a while, but he's been out of the college game for a LONG time.
IMO, if he gets back into coaching, it's going to be with a NFL franchise.

If you're talking about Chris Petersen, the head coach of Washington, you should start your drive to get him by spelling his name correctly.

If Gruden wants back on the sidelines, he could find plenty of NFL teams who would give him a shot.
Going the college route makes zero sense for him.
As long as MNF is willing to pay him $6 million per year I think he stays put. That could be changing soon though.

Watch the Buccaneers ROS closely. If they tank, Dirk is out and I guarantee they will bring Gruden back!
