Herman coached 3 QBs at ohio state in one season en route to a national title. Color me impressed.

Well actually he played QB and receiver. As a sophomore he played receiver. His high school career is below per Wikipedia.

"Greg Ward attended John Tyler High School in Tyler, Texas. As a senior he passed for 4,202 yards and 39 touchdowns with 861 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. As a junior he threw for 3,596 yards and 32 touchdowns and rushed for 1,212 yards with 18 touchdowns. He played wide receiver his sophomore year and recorded 53 receptions for 667 yards with eight touchdowns."

Not arguing that Herman has done well with him, but Greg Ward has a lot of talent. And I am not arguing against Herman. Just making a point regarding Jimbo. I think Jimbo's success, or lack of, had more to do with his Defensive Coordinators, which he is accountable for, than his QB. Jimbo has always been able squeeze all the juice out of his QB's.

Agree 100%. I know you can't do this to a new HC, but if it's Jimbo (or anyone else for that matter) I hope he does whatever it takes to keep Aranda, until he leaves for an HC job.

This proves to me you know absolutely NOTHING about football nor have you watched any football.

It's the same mentality that got us 3 terms of Edwin Edwards. Clever guy, big personality, talks funny, etc...

some folks "opinions" are a joke.

If I had a say I'd go:

1. Jimbo. Known commodity. recruits well. knows the state and program. Loves LSU IMO. If he wants the job it's his.

2. Herman. Always scares me getting the "hot" coach from a program like Houston. Southern Miss and Curley ruined me forever on those kind of guys.

3. Mich St coach. I'm not trying to spell his name. Only concern for me is recruiting in this area. Being able to recruit is a HUGE part of this job.

4. Coach O. Depends on how things play out. Can certainly recruit LA and other areas. Maybe keeps Aranda here. With the right OC and mindset (meaning he stays out of the way...sound familiar?) I think he could be a huge success here. OC and DC would be huge. I think if he knows how to be more of a CEO and less of a hands on coach might work. I do think the risk is less with him than others. It might be the LA Edwin Edwards syndrome in me (FWIW I never voted for Edwards. Wasn't in LA for the crook vs KKK racist race).

5. Petrino I guess. Recruiting is my main concern. Dude never has a defense. Can't seem to recruit that side of the ball well enough for LSU IMO. Defense has and always will be LSU's calling card. I just don't think he fits.


I like some of the other names mentioned. Gase is interesting but Miami is a shitshow and I don't think they or he gives up after one season.

In a perfect world I want a young proven Power 5 coach. That is a pipedream but that's what we all want correct??? and someone who wants LSU to be great and wants to be here.

As in bringing him on as the new HC? Or passing him over for someone more qualified since money will not be an issue. Because if money is truly not an issue there are a few coaches they should MAKE say no first before introducing O as new HC despite what happens the rest of this season. I do agree they should do whatever it takes to retain him after hiring the next HC though.
