1 yard line

Which one?

LSU was at the 1-yard line with both Nielsen and Freeman. The problem was it was the Missouri game with less than 1 minute left...

Really, the frick up goes back to when Aranda left. Hiring Pelini was inexcusable and now we are back in the same situation.

O needs to keep things in house until signature. Otherwise you're just advertising your swings and misses.

You think he stayed in NO without some incentive when he was going to get more money here and a DC job? If it was a promotion he's gone. NO values him too much to see him leave. Good job by the Saints holding on to a good coach.

Back to O with his all in with Plan A but no Plan B.

This is all because Ed couldn't be bothered to interview Pelini. All blame lies at his lazy, arrogant feet.

Nah, the Saints just blocked him from signing with us. They have officially started a war between the two programs.

So, has O only been looking a one guy at a time or is he just having a tough time getting guys to even interview? Why is it so hard for LSU to hire a good DC?

Imagine interviewing only 3 candidates, when the search began in early November and you're now 0-3 on them.

Oh, it’s definitely a bad look for LSU right now and I don’t think they did anything wrong. This got FUBAR’d by Nielsen’s agent but we are still standing at the alter again without a DC.

Nielsen could not get out of his contract with the Saints.

I'd like to see the wording of this contract.

I mean if Nielsen signed a contract that said he couldn't move on to be a def coordinator in college well then I wonder how he expects his career to really progress.

ETA And if he/his agent messed up this deal as some are suggesting...well he left at least 1mil/yr sitting at the damn alter. I mean unless he knows he is going to get the Saints DC spot when Allen leaves that is just dumb....hell it still might be dumb because I imagine LSU would have still paid him more to be DC.

I’m not justifying anything. Just laying out the three candidates and what happened with each.

I was replying to someone that said LSU was having trouble getting people to interview, which is false.

Not a melt at all. The Saints and their noodle arm, overpaid QB just got embarrassed by 2 LSU alumni. Now they can completely rebuild AND have a bad rep for not letting their assistants move up.
