It is pretty telling he only wanted to coach the cb's and not all the db's as a whole. Him and Mickey I view the same, great recruiters, lazy coaches. The real downside to this is this cycles recruiting class is likely to completely fall apart.

Worth noting that after 2011 we were terrible some years on the DL. We even played a few games with zero rotation with DL because we only had 4 (Orgeron's first year? Interim 2016?).

And a DB's best friend is a good DL.

Having said that... Raymond's best years were those years.

It blow my mind as the DL was rebuilt the DBs performance dropped. I'm not saying that's all on Raymond because it isn't (what happened in 2020- new DC named Pelini after Aranda). But it is the opposite of one would expect to see.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but LSU's 2020/2021 categories just about all trend that way

Trying to pin 2020 and 2021 on Raymond is fertilizer. I think Raymond has earned his reputation. Great coach.

Louisiana has so many athletes on defense that Ron cooper could stack a defensive backfield by solely showing up at camp and picking his guys.

Ron Cooper was also weak as a recruiter.

Which is my point.

Ron cooper literally could lie about going on recruiting visits and go to a camp and pick up a couple random athletes and we had an elite secondary. That’s how easy it is to recruit DBs at LSU.

CR had nothing to do with the play calling by Bo Pellini.
Don't put 2020 on him.

Don't put 2020 on him. Players did not seem to know where they were supposed to be on many plays. The defense was atrocious. I place majority of it on Bo.

But let’s be subjective, when was the last LSU secondary that you would consider elite? Stats say 3 years ago, what do you think?

The defensive coordinator has more to do with that than a cornerbacks coach.

He didn't even coach safeties the last 3 years. Corners only.

I hope one day, some time from now, everyone can look back & understand the affect that the players LSU lost after 2019 & the ones that sat out 2020 (along with Covid) completely tore down the base of the program. And understand that coaches with terrific track records all of a sudden did not become trash.

I’m looking at Tommy Moffit, who has already been steamrolled. And now Corey Raymond

Looks like a pretty strong list to me. Is there another DB coach who's done better?

LSU could just hire one of the best recruiters in the country.

Oh wait…BK did just hire one of the best recruiters in the country.

Hate to see Raymond go but LSU will be fine.

Losing Raymond to UF is a double whammy. Not only do we lose him, but now we have to fight him for the top DB’s every year.
