He did NOT mention Aranda

He said there was no contact with Napier and went on about that, but he left Jordy’s question about Aranda unanswered

This makes no sense. If the search is “still going”, then it means we banked it all on Riley and lost, which is the other camp he references.

No it doesn’t. It means even the people inside don’t know exactly what’s going on or that Woodward never landed on anyone.

Honestly, I think Woody has his guy. He’s always had his guy. Who that guy is is anyone’s guess at this point. I’m just going off of available evidence and knowing Woody’s history with hires. He is methodical and meticulous. He takes his time. He irons out all details and possibilities before ever making an offer to anyone. He’s well respected among coaches (especially SEC coaches).

So everybody knows something then.

So no camp is saying Woodward has his guy. Got it.

Because no one actually knows. He might…or he might not.

He also specifically said that he believes LSU reached out to Franklin, Tucker, and Riley.

I listened to that part again and he said “it’s pretty clear to me” based on the raises and extensions.

Obviously that’s his opinion and not him reporting.

If you read the tea leaves, he implied LSU thought they had Riley, and had felt that way for some time.

I think they thought LSU had their guy, nobody knew who. This may not be a situation that has changed at all.

I'm starting to convince myself that this is the guy. Partly because I refuse to believe it's Stoops, Campbell, Aranda, or any of the other meh hires. But also because the timing. Any of those guys would have been announced today. Doesn't make sense, unless the guy is still playing fro the playoffs (Fickell) or on Sundays (Rhule)
The fact that Napier wasn’t even contacted...

I mean I’m not one of these guys who believes he is the next Saban, but he is as solid as any of the “tier 2” guys and was openly campaigning for the job.

Does kinda piss you off a little if they don’t come out with a dark horse grand slam.

Yeah, hence the word "believes" in my post. He also said based on all the "smoke" surrounding Riley, he believes it was clear there was some contact there, though he didn't know how "deep" it was. These are the conclusions and right-thinking reporter would draw. And any intelligent human.

I remain in the camp that we offered Riley. Only offered. No deal was ever done, which is obvious now. I do believe that we thought a deal would be done.

Maybe I’m giving him too much credit, but no way Woodward would do this. This isn’t his first rodeo.

It kind of makes sense with Riley being so weird

There was so much buzz about him going to LSU

When in reality he was going to USC

“Coach Riley! Are you leaving Oklahoma for LSU?”

“No I’m not. I am however leaving for a different job.”

I’m not sure if we whiffed. Or this was part of the plan.

But it makes sense how weird Riley was when he kept getting specifically asked about the LSU job.

“No don’t worry I’m not leaving for LSU. I’m still thinking about leaving though so don’t get too happy by that answer.”

And maybe Woody is telling some “I’ve got my guy” and when all the Riley stuff started coming out (probably from Riley’s agent) everyone on the inside just started running with it.

I can’t believe that Woody would have no contact with either of those guys. He’s not the type of guy who doesn’t have a contingency plan in place. The most likely case is he never really offered Riley anything. He may have reached out to his agent. I’m sure he reached out to many coaches agents. I believe he was feeling out his contingency plans with these contacts.

But he didn’t explicitly say “LSU made contact with X, Y, Z, thus extensions”

You can draw that conclusion, but the mere fact that LSU and USC were open is enough to mobilize ADs and boosters, especially in Franklins case I’d say.
