Colorado is a much better stepping stone job than USF. Expectations at Colorado are suuuuper low.

Deion can recruit Cali and Texas.

From Jackson to Boulder. Couldn’t be two more different cities.

People really thought he was going to a G5 team?

Colorado was always the play. He’s one of only a handful of people that can recruit there and they’ve been so bad so long that even if he just does okay it will look like he did an amazing job.

The fit stuff, as usual, was complete nonsense.

Terrible dead end job.

CU does not support athletics.

He will get some assurances for investing in the program.

He will get some talent

There will be a honeymoon period and it will be “cool” for fans to go to Biuff games. Interest will go up for a while.

I agree. People think you just need a good recruiter but recruiting also requires big budgets.

Kirby hasn't killed it at UGA b/c he's amazing at recruiting as much as he's had one of the biggest recruiting budgets in history.

Deion won't get a large recruiting budget or a large budget for his staff (which will mean he can't hire recruiters).

A directional school in Florida would have been a better stepping stone job, imho. Colorado is where coaches go to die.

Was USF ever truly interested? If so, I have no idea why he’d go to Colorado. Head scratcher.

lol. There is no stepping stone there. The only person that didn't get fired in the last 20+ years was Mel Tucker and that's b/c he hauled arse after one season and going 5-7. The Colorado job is a dead end. They've fired 5 coaches since the 2005 season.

2005 Fired Gary Barnett (forced to resign)
2010 Fired Dan Hawkins
2012 Fired John Embree
2018 Fired Mike MacIntyre
2019 Bolted Mel Tucker
2021 Fired Karl Dorrell

Stepping stone?

He'll have to b/c there is no talent near the school. Colorado is a bad job.

Didn’t the fire McIntyre 1 year removed from a division title?

I don’t see it. Other than Travis Hunter and his own kid, most of Deion’s good gets were P5 bounce backs. Most bounce backs transfer closer to home. Colorado is not close to home for many P5 caliber players.

Currently Deion has a G5 quality roster in one of the worst FCS leagues. He has no shot of getting that sort of talent gap at Colorado.

I really think he should have stayed in the south and built a network here that he can continue to go to and follow him to wherever he coaches around here. Will be harder to sell the location further from home for some of these kids. Now maybe he will be able to pull kids from here out there?

It was two years. He had one really good year, 2016, where he won the division and finished the season ranked in the top 20. He was a hot name back then for coaching searches. The two following seasons he went back to the basement of the division where he was every year except 2016.
