Could James Franklin be in play For A&M?

How long before he decides he’s topped out at Penn state and needs to go somewhere with more resources?

I don’t think atm has the funds to match what he’s making this go around.

The biggest deterrent for A&M hiring a big name coach is the price tag. Even if they spend more than anyone else, they'd be going beyond that just to hire another big name equal to what Jimbo was.

Also, now that the Big 10 is going with no divisions, his job just got a lot easier. He's not guaranteed to face Michigan and OSU every season.
Franklin gets a lot of flack, because he loses to the Big 2 every year. But the dude is about to likely post his 5th 11 win season in 10 years and he lost to Michigan and Ohio State by a combined 17 points.
I'm not a big fan, and I wouldn't want him at LSU, but he is way better of a coach than he gets credit for. Penn State being in the same division as UM and OSU is just a bad spot.

He'd lose 3 - 4 more games annually in the SEC now.

He's under contract through 2031 at $7.5 million per year. I doubt A&M is throwing enough money to get Franklin to walk away from that, nor should they.

No, this isn't the type of coach A&M is looking for. He's good. Not great. I think we know his ceiling. Plus he's already gotten his big payday.

Brian Kelly will likely have the same amount of 10 win seasons in his first two years at LSU that A&M has had in 30 years.
Franklin has had more 11-win seasons in 10 years than A&M has had in it's history.
