Chavis v Moffit - the battle of LBs

how long after the bowl game does chavis make the push to get our LBs down to the 215-230 range? riley and sheppard need to lose some weight to fit into chavis' D (cutrera doesn't really fit the mold)
will moffit adapt accordingly?

move to pass rushing DE?

Moffit will adjust his training regimen to fit the requirements of the coaching staff. He trained smaller and faster LB's at Miami.
Look for guys like Coleman to get a look at LB with Chavis. Our D has gotten progressively slower during Pelini's tenure and I would be glad to see that change. Doubt you'll ever see Danny McCray lining up on slot receivers either.

I'm curious how chad jones will be used in Chavis' defense.

i'm thinking something like that
or he'll just end up as a special teamer
can he move to TE? the transition can't be THAT hard

We need a full back.

the players strength, weight, and speed are all closely monitored by the entire staff. This has not been a problem so far, so I'd be surprised if it becomes one under Chavis.

i honestly think our LB corps next year could easily end up
WLB: baker
MLB: riley
SLB: jones
with hawkins at FS and mccray at SS

dickson to part-time H-back and Cutrera to blocking TE

sure I don't really see this as being a problem. Moffit is a strength and conditioning coach, not a position coach. I never really thought about what your saying here, but I like it. I have always liked lighter, faster LB's. They need to get the DE's to loose some pounds also.

250 lb LBs and 4.9 LBs will be a problem under chavis

I tryed to tell another poster last year that Jones needed to be a LB and he claimed I was insane.

Cutrera played TE his Soph and Junior year at Acadiana. I think he can be an effective Mike if Chavis has everyone knowing where they should be. Cutrera will be auditioning big time tomorrow for his new coach.

We are recruiting smaller and faster linebackers the last couple of years anyway, they will naturally be faster even if TM didn't change...but he will adjust if needed.

i think before this year i could have seen him as a badass S, but he is not good in coverage and can't cover man for shite. if he plays S, we're going to have to use a zone system
i considered jones at LB insane b/c he wasn't big enough for the old system. he fits with chavis' system

and sometimes they end up as riley and shep
i don't think those were "big" LBs coming out a few years ago

Keep in mind that Moffitt's first college gig was as assistant S&C coach at TN, while Fulmer and Chavis were there. I doubt it'll be a problem for him to re-adapt to working with Chavis and his LB philosophy.

i really think hawkins is our diamond in the rough to play as a roving FS
