couldn't agree more...DB looked like a complete psycho killer in that game. I thought he was going to be our best linebacker in the last 20 years.

SFP, I have to respectfully disagree with you here... Now I think coverage wise, Hawkins would be a great FS, but as far as physicality, it's been a long time since I have seen a CB at LSU more afraid to come up and make a big hit on a RB running a sweep and I cant see him having any kind of beneficial affect as a FS when a big RB is running right at him. He is a soft CB, plain and simple, and I wouldnt see him as being any kind of great FS...
I could always be wrong, but after what Ive seen from Hawkins this year, nothing strikes me about him and an ability to play FS

I completely agree... As much as I loved Beckwith, Cutrera will be an excellent upgrade at MLB next year... I saw a lot of progress with Cutrera from this year as compared to last, even though the defense sucked a lot worse this year...

if our front 7 does their job, then our FS shouldn't have to make many tackles

I would be more happy with Jai back there... I thought he had the better season of the two (him and CH) and he was def. waaayyy more physical, in fact that was a strength of his. However, which ever way Chavis lines the boys up, I will be much happier than this past year

Also, even when we had Dorsey, Highsmith etc, Laron Landry was still the leading tackler from the FS spot in 2006-2007; obviously Laron was a beast, but he did have to make a lot of tackles even though the front 7 was really legit.
Curtis Taylor even made a good bit of stops in last years championship season, so I think FS has to be able to knock some heads when he has to, because there will be many times when he is the last man, but I do agree with you that we need better coverage out of the S position regardless

we need a FS who understands that he has to stay deep more than anything. hell, both of our safeties need this burned into their heads. Taylor and Coleman bit on way too much short stuff.

i'm really curious to see how chavis is going to handle the LB's. i've read from several different sites that his D's are based around versatile, athletic LB's. i'm wondering if he'll tweak the lineup and move somebody like jones to LB and start baker. riley and sheppard aren't going to cut it in his current system

Robert Peace (6 3 235) also thrived under Chavis at LB.

If smaller LB's thrive under Chavis then new doors are opening for former WM Rebel Shomari Clemons
