CBS article on Franklin hire at PSU

Penn State, of all teams, should have avoided James Franklin
I find this to be an incredibly stupid article. Franklin never tried to cover the situation up like the old admin at Penn State, and he removed the players from the team once he knew all the details. Hanging him for the mistakes of others is ridiculous.
Am I the only one who thinks this?

Penn State cannot hire James Franklin. Can't even begin to think about it, actually.
The fact there is "baggage" in the background of Vanderbilt's talented, affable, accomplished coach is enough. All you need to know is that Franklin was Vanderbilt's coach last June 23 when police say four of his players raped an unconscious 21-year-old student in a dorm room.
Each was charged with five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery. They all were subsequently kicked off the team. They later pleaded not guilty. A fifth player pleaded guilty to attempting to cover up the assault.
Franklin has not been tied to the case, at all. But he was the coach when it happened and that should be enough -- especially at Penn State.

This is as dumb as what the Texas Booster said about Strong

This is fricking retarded.
He kicked them off the team. Its not like he can be fricking omnipotent and know exactly what players are going to do.
Something terrible happened. He responded accordingly. You know, exactly how Penn State didn't.
If anything, that's perfect for them.

I've bee saying this would come up.
Sorry but I agree that for PR purposes alone PSU is dumb to hire Franklin.

I hear what you're saying, but again, it's not like Franklin is Jesus and can be everywhere at once and keep all of his players in line. Nobody can do that.
He can, however, take appropriate action when an issue arises, which is something that he did, and which is something Penn State, as we all know, did not. Franklin has already shown that he won't tolerate any of that bullshite, which should honestly, in my opinion, bring a ton of peace to the Penn State administration and fans.

There are rumors that he told players to delete related text messages. Which, if true (I doubt it), would be all kinds of PR trouble for Penn State.

I think the issue is the case is still open and there's been some rumors that coaches may have facilitated a cover up. I don't think anything else has come of it at this point. I could see where it could become an issue if something like that comes out after he leaves Vandy.
Now I'm sure Penn State has probably looked into it and feels comfortable in hiring him. If so, I don't see the issue.

I would assume Penn State did its due diligence on Franklin, but then, Penn State.

No. I think the sanctions by the NCAA against the PSU football program were stupid too.

Go ask any defense attorney about that and ask for an off the record answer and every damn one of em will tell you they would advise their clients yo erase that shite too. Sorry but that's not vovering up shite that's just protecting your own. He did right thing by kicking them off the team what more can you ask.

we won't know for sure until trial and evidence comes out, but it's highly unlikely JF or his staff knew what was going on.

i think Dennis Dodd is just a number of hits per page kinda journalist. It's a pretty typical article for him. My advice, dont read him.
