honestly, why does it matter if he doesn't hire anyone before the bowl game?
I guess the question is why wait?

"Maybe the new guy doesn't want to come in, evaluate players, and come up with a game plan for the bowl, and then risk taking on early heat if the D gets torched against GT"

I hadn't thought of this, and it makes alot of sense.

based on what? the consensus of the rant?

actually we don't know anything that is going on, is that handling things terribly? seems pretty smart to me

Point taken.

But isn't this class pretty much done with? There are no one really wavering and it seems as though we know the names of the fall backs already. IMO, I don't think it will hurt recruiting all that much.

"early heat if the D gets torched against GT" could then hurt recruiting. "The new guy sucks, come play for xxxxx." - rival SEC recruiter

Or early praise if GT's water gets shut off.

Difference in closing with RR, Debose, Jarvis Jones versus some back burners is significant.

that might be true, but this season surely hasn't made him look smart.

I think there is slim to none chance of that happening. Most of our dudes will probably be roaming around the city of Atlanta making early plans to attend Freaknik.

You could argue that those are offensive guys therefore not effected by the hires, but thats not true

The longer we have this liability out there the more ammo we give the negative recruiters for a solid month

My guess is that the new DC, if hired before the bowl, would be used in an "advisory role", if at all.

I think Les is taking a big gamble here. He is obviously going to wait until after the BG. If he does that he may be in the same position as last year and not have a highly qualified pool of candidates. Last year he could not hire Tenuta, because Tenuta was going w/ him to Mich not LSU.

What's unfortunate is that this is his biggest crisis yet at LSU and if it does not resolve satisfactorily, then Les will not last long.

It's hard for me to imagine that he does not grasp the gravity of the situation, but the evidence seems to indicate that it is so.

Jarvis Jones? That other 5'10" 196 lb LB? Neither was never a for sure thing. Minter will be in in the fall.

Was Jones being recruited by either one of the two? Who's to say they knew Mallory or Peveto was going to be gone? I know one week, Jones was all LSU, then all of the sudden, they fall back to 4th or 5th on his list.
