For some reason, I think he WAS going to Michigan until Herbstreit leaked it. Miles was not about to be shown up by some punk "pretty boy" from ESPN, so he stayed to spite him.
Yeah, to "save face" he didn't take his dream job at his Alma Mater, that's why. Not committment to his team, his employer, the words that he said. (Cue the: Yeah, but he left OSU to go to LSU - you would, too, so spare me).
Yeah, spite is why Les Miles is still the coach at LSU (thank G-d for spite, then) and NOT character.
You think something like "spite" or "committment" is going to keep the angry little man from WV from taking $10 million per year to move to Austin - you've got another thing coming. It won't be "spite" that's for sure - it will be "counter offer", if anything stops that guy. (And Texas isn't even his dream job...)

There a no better college footballs jobs than Alabama. There are comparable jobs, but there are no better. Among the top jobs in college football, the differences among the four or five top positions are really a matter of personal preference.
If you want to find a comparable NFL team, Alabama is the Green Bay Packers. They aren't in the biggest media market, but they are a national brand. They were both built around two legendary coaches. They have both been around and winning since the very beginning. Both have absolutely rabid and demanding fanbases. Both have gone through tumultuous periods, but they always bounce back.
There are NFL franchises out there that have more money, a better media market, but does anyone dispute that The Packers are one of the NFL very best franchises? The Packers are synonymous with the NFL. The University of Alabama is one of those teams that can be said to synonymous with college football.

Well said Purple. Of course you'll be branded as "delusional" (the favorite word of rival fans) for those statements but they're spot on.
I do think there are a select few jobs that could be considered better than Alabama given the total package of ability to win, recruits, money, facilities, and great cities like Texas, USC, etc but Alabama is a much better job than many haters here will ever admit. The most ridiculous myth is that Alabama fans are overdemanding and have "unrealistic expectations". I remember hearing that comment constantly from rival fans when they said we couldn't do any better than Mike Shula for a head coach.

Whoops! And then you backslid into paranoia and straw man creation. Of course alabama is a very good job. They just aren't texas or florida

To YOU. But if Texas can pay $10 million and Bama won't go as high as say, $8.5 million, that will not be as good to Saban. I'm not saying it will be a pure bidding war, but IF it gets to that, he's just going to go. He has NEVER held a job longer than 5 years - EVER. Maybe he will this time ... but it will come with a price.

Is Texas "comparable" to you? If it is and it pays more money, why isn't it plausible? Seriously, honestly - Saban does not give a rat's a$$ about Bama or its tradition - he really, really doesn't. I thought ya'll accepted that when you got him. He didn't take the job because it was Bama - he took the job because it was the best option to jump ship before his stock dropped.

To YOU. Not to Saban. His dream job is Penn State - he probably can't take it now because there's too much baggage and not enough time to fix it. However, Sexton knows what their "no kidding" number is if Saban were available. You don't have to believe this for it to be true. Saban is squirming and sweating right now like a whore in church - he's programmed to pack up all of his $hit and move every 5 years (or sooner).

Alabama-- one of the top 3 programs in college football history. No programs better. Explain to me how your head coach packed his suitcase and moved to College Station again? Move up to the next level? Better conference?

NCAA doom. Bowl ban + crippling scholarship reductions. He was told it wouldn't be that bad, and it was. He was a pussy.

In a 10 year span Bama had Stallings, DuBose, Franchione, Price, Shula, & Saban as head coaches.
If no job is better why did y'all hire so many shitty coaches?

Bama can't be second in anything related to football.
It's comical at this point

Mike Price a shitty coach? He is the only coach in Alabama history to leave undefeated.

This is a move by Sexton and Saban to get more money from Bama. Saban isn't leaving IMO (Although the news is pretty hot in Texas right now)
Nick is capitalizing on a situation for more $. If he goes to Texas he will be taking his statue with him FWIW

Yes Alabama can pay 10 million. Have you bothered to check and see how much our football program makes? Dunno if we would or not, but we certainly can. Hell we made him the highest paid coach in cfb, and you morons freaked that we'd be dumb enough to pay a coach that much...looks like we weren't so dumb after all.
Just because he left you for greener pastures has no bearing on now.
We're arguably the best program in the history of the game, past, present and the future's looking pretty good too. Just nothing better out there.
You don't have to like it, you not liking it doesn't change that truth.

Of course we're arrogant. Being arguably the best program in the history of the game kinda means you can talk smack about anyone else's program, and all they can do is take it.
Check back with us in 20 or 30 years, it might not still be the case then, but then again with Bama's dedication to being the best program in the game, I wouldn't bet on it.

Alabama has won a lot of football games. As far as the tradition, fans, game day experience, meh. Michigan has won a lot of games, too.

It has nothing to do with what I like - Saban does not give a rat's a$$ about Bama. Pay him what he wants on the first and the fifteenth and MAYBE he stays. Maybe he goes. He still doesn't have a buyout - he could command even more money with one - why do you suppose it is that way?
